Is there an optimal height to drop the R56 for the best performance gain?

In talking with Rephyle, he mentioned that the geometry is best at about 1' -> 1.2" drop. BUT, most of the challenge cars and track / autoX oriented Minis I see are pretty slammed. There is probably more to that than I know though.

My first autoX day is coming up so I'm actually pretty interested to see how it will handle.

Looks good Andrew! Actually....it looks closer to what it should have from the factory than the factory lift kit we get shafted with at delivery!

What size tire are you running right now? Have you posted details on your airbag setup anywhere I can check out?

Thanks dude. I was amazed that I had to drop it so far to remove all the factory wheel gap. The R56/55 is like a mini SUV already

Tire is stock size for the 15's, 175/65/15

I can't spin the coils down any further up front because the tire will start interfering with the bag which is a big no-no. The plan is to start designing a top mount for the front bearing that will be much shorter than the stock bushing-bearing combination. Hopefully that'll offer atleast a 1" - 2" drop like some of the camber plate options.

I've got a full build up thread over on MU with a bunch of info and pictures about the airbag build up. There's a bunch of talk to sift through, but I tried to take a bunch of pictures to show what I was doing.

http://www.motoringunderground.com/f...=10415&page=21

And this one has a bit less information, but all of it is collected in one place so you don't have to cruise through 40 pages to find it all

Thanks for sharing those links. I must congratulate you; you did a fantastic job with the engineering and installation!

Your clubby looks great now, but it'll look amazing when you finish up those BBS's. Are you going with a 8"/8.5" wide stagger like your R50? I can't wait to see your Clubman in person to get a feel for how low it really is; I'm sure the pics don't do it justice on the altitude.

Cheers,
Ryan

Haha yah it looks a lot lower in person for some reason. I can't wait to get the wheels all finished up. I still haven't decided on the widths though. Right now they are 16x7 and 16x8. I may keep them that way and try to go lower or the other option is to keep this ride height and go wider with 16x7.5 and 16x9. Haven't decided which stance I want yet.

I'm sure the "Stance" is very important

If you're still planning on running 205/40-16, you might not want to stretch more than on an 8" wheel. Here's an idea: 195/45-16 on 7.5" front and 215/40-16 on 8.5" rear. Both sizes are available in the new Yoko S.drive and the Goodyear GS-D3

Whatever you choose however, I'm sure it'll roxxors the big 111!!

Yah my plans are falken 512's (for their stretch) 16x7.5 with 205/40 and 16x9 with 215/40

I'd run 195/45 on the 7.5's if they made the 512's in that size.

@oxybluecoop... nope sold it! had a nice price for it

@Rally. Those bbs wheels are great and the quality is superB.. I never want any other brand now!! LOVE them

This time I went for KW V1.. just to see how much it differs from V2..

My tip for you guys is.. If you are not doin' track days... get the V1's Comfi ride but still stiff enough to do some cornering

me happy!!

Great looking Cooper Coen de K! It looks like you really hunkered down your MINI with those KW V1's!

I also equipped my new R56 with KW V1's. I took a less aggressive approach and set them up to have about the same compression travel as stock. I set the suspension ride height [axle to bottom side of wheel arch apex] at 12.5" front and 12.6" rear. [compared to 14.2" front and rear]

Cheers,
Ryan

Looks awesom Ryan. Any pics of the fronts installed by any chance? I may switch over to KW struts for the front bags cause my current ones tore into my CV boot cause they were set too low

Unfortunately Andrew I didn't get any pics of the front struts after I installed them because it was past dusk The KW's do get closer to the CV boot than stock, however at full extension they are still about a half inch away from the CV boot. The clearance will only increase with compression. Is that the info you're looking for?
