Week 3 Suspension Tire/Fender Gap Taller than Week 32

When I got my week 32 R56 I preceived that the tire/fender gap seemed to be substantially less compared to my week 3 R56.

Today I drove back to back Z3bum's week 3 R56 with same wheels and tires as mine (16" Continental A/S on Bridge-Spokes). The only difference is both my cars were equipped with the Sports Suspension. When compared to Z3bum's car my week 32 car had very little if no torque steer compared to excessive torque steer in the week 3 car.

The gap between the wheel well and the top of the tire was barely 3 fingers as compared to 4 fingers on the week 3. A week 26 car equipped with 17's also had a 4 finger gap from bottom of wheel well to top of tire.

So I guess inquiring minds want to know the following:
  • Is the torque steer caused by the perceived higher wheel to fender gap?
  • Is torque steer a component of alignement (i.e., Z3bum's car is out of alignment from delivery and that is the cause of the torque steer)
  • Was suspension lowering a component of the week 32 cars?
  • Is the $500 sport suspension that good? On the week 3 car I had equipped with sport suspension it didn't feel that significant - on this car I notice it.
Thanks in advance.

Mine's an early January build

I've got definite torque steer in the lower gears.

MCS
LSD
standard suspension
16" wheels with factory performance tires (37psi f, 34psi r)
totally stock

I usually do my own alignments and can check the alignment myself, but haven't done so yet. What are the current alignment specs for Z3bum's car?

-JL

edit: I'm not in town right now so I can't give an apprximate wheel well gap. I could check the gap on the orange Cobalt rental car I'm driving right now, but doubt it would help

Z3bum hasn't checked yet either.. it would be interesting to see if an alignment would cure the torque steer.

Can you measure the distance from ground to body on both cars to see if the newer one is truly lower? I always thought measuring the wheelweel/top of the tire gap to be difficult because the low and high points are in different places.
