Suspension New Megan Suspension
New Megan Suspension
My new suspension from Megan Racing just arrived. Pepper has just rolled over 90k miles and the shocks are getting tired. I’ve been waiting and planning this move for over 18 months. After a lot of looking and listening, I decided to go with Megan Racing. I got Adjustable camber plates, shocks with adjustable valve settings, new springs with adjustable ride height and suspension travel, all for just over a grand; who could ask for more. Add to that camber and toe-in links for the rear. All-in-all this should keep me busy tweaking, adjusting and just plan fiddling at the track for some time.
The parts were well packaged and arrived in perfect condition. The finish on the parts was of surprisingly high quality. If the fit and performance are on par with their appearance, I’ll have the ride of my life. Dealing with Megan Racing has been great. Most of the time, I dealt with Steve. He is an invaluable resource on MINI suspension, and to deal with me he must be one of the most patient persons on the face of our planet.
I hope to get the parts on tomorrow. I will be going to a friend’s house for the install
I’ll keep you informed on how the install goes as well as their performance.

Thats prolly about 300-500 bucks less than all of that stuff seperately. Let us know how the install goes and well it feels.
Is this what you bought? It seems to have everything you listed minus the rear adjusters.

Yes I recieved everything from Megan Racing. You link is good. When I said a little over a grand that did not include the rear links. The links are available from Megan. More to the point not all of their MINI products are always listed. Give them a call ask for Steve and tell them you talked with me.
Oh I guess I forgot to say I am Tom Spray. You might know me from the Dragon or Phil Wicks track days. I am a classroom and on track instructor since '03. I'm hard to miss ... big beard and poneytail.
I don't race the car but I do Track it alot.

What I went to is custom springs about equal to 8.7kg in front and 6.5 in the rear. This is because im not a fan of having to Preload a suspension. Hope this helps if you havent had time to try them out yet.

...you shouldn't have to preload these. Just tighten the lower spring perch enough to keep the spring from becoming unseated. But, before this, make sure that the cylinder is screwed all the down into the sleeve. The damper will have all the travel it can have if installed this way.
If your front springs are 469# from Megan, they should be 7" long...the 6" springs do not have enough travel. If you have 6" springs I understand your problem. These will not work. You can call either Megan or Eibach for new springs - a great source for Eibach springs is Ground Control. They also have Eibachs spring sizing chart as a link. Ground Control also have a slightly barrel shaped spring designed for adjustable coilovers. This spring type will give you - if I remember - an additional 1/2" in spring travel than a standard linear rate spring.

Thanks meb. On the ones i did.. after wieghing the car. I went to Thurston Spring company and had custom ones made to my specs. With the expectation of 1.1G load and 3" of travel. They seem to do the Job for my Driving style. Ride is good, Im using 98% of the travel during Autox days and the car is very Neutral.
Gee I'm confussed! I don't have any problem with the Megans. In fact they have surpased my expectations to this point. True I have not tracked them .. yet. That will be dealt with at Talladega next month. They ride great with not bottoming out. Megan sure seems to have it correct.

I may have miss-stated about the valving. After the holidays i'll get this cleared up. Sorry IF I misled anyone. I did have an unusual incident yesterday. I came accross some highway construction, with speed bumps. I was doing around 40MPH when I hit them. I had a brief rub on the front left tire, I have never rubbed in the front, there just isn't that much travel in the stock setup. The Megan's have not been touched, (I left them as shipped) No I have not found the rub spot, but I did heard. I am looking forward to playing with the settings.
