There has been several occurrences of a squeal/groan when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd. Trinity's thread has the best summary. Krut has had some work done on his which may be the same issue, but its less clear.

Here is the thread:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=99975

The MC issue if you are going to ask that next seems to be a rough running issue at low throttle levels, accompanied by the Check Engine Light CEL. I think its first seen in MCa's but other cars including MCS standards can show it too.

The best thread for this is here:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=96609

So in the context of Mini scrambling to resolve these issues, I think the Dash Storage is not on the radar.

51-45-2-754-709 Covering RIG MI

Thanks for that info BritBoy - and congrats on your dash storage. And I'm glad your transmission is in order.

I went to an event at my dealer today and spoke with the SA about it again. He said he is on the look out for the bulletin. So now the big question is how do we contact somebody within Mini to push for this bulletin.

You need to tell the dealer that others have had theirs opened and give them the list of the part numbers. Then a call to ASK MINI is you still get push back.

I'm picking up my car today with a working cruise control MFSW! I'll give those numbers to my service advisor to research but I may have to wait for the box fix until first service.

Wow - that is a relief! Did they give you any info on what was making it so difficult.

I spoke to my SA over the weekend and he said they have done a number of flashes and they have had no problems.

They re-did my software last week. They were only supposed to upgrade the Cruise Control, but ended up redoing the whole system by mistake. Took an extra day, but I got a great loaner out of it. Haven't been out on the open road to try out the cruise since then. They even delivered the car to me on a flatbed since it took so much longer than expected. No need for an extra trip to the dealer. And they washed my car. Nice.

Just got back from the dealer. The SA said that while those parts may fit some cars different VINs could be different and he would need to wait for the bulletin.

On my MFSW the trouble was only due to the wrong part. Once they got the final correct parts it all worked. I'll post the final story over in the MFSW thread for future reference of others.

Hmmm - did you order, or did you buy a car off the lot. If it is off the lot then you should inquire what week it was built as it seems that it was only cars in the range of week 3-5 that are affected.

If you ordered your car then it should work. Push firmly on the fascia panel on both ends near the AC vent.

If you bought from the lot and it is not week 3-5, then again it should work.

Let us know.

Looks like we have a break through! Deb has reported that her SA has gotten a service bulletin on the dash storage:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...68#post1585768

I'm going to check with my dealer, and Ask Mini as well.

It is confirmed!

I got a call back from Meg at Mini USA and she informed me that the Bulletin is indeed out, and she said the required parts are available (as opposed to back ordered).

SO that is good news to all us dash-storageless motorers. Time to call your dealer and get your due!

MotorMouth posted the service bulletin number on the other thread here:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...&postcount=128

Here is the service bulletin:

SI m51 04 07

also

SI m51 03 07

edit:

The BEST news - it is supposed to be covered under your new car warranty. The owner does not have to pay for the retrofit. The bulletin states this in black and white.

Congrat's korb - you are now whole, but for the jack and tools. Keep after your dealer - take this tact - If I buy a new Mini today will it come with a jack and tools? So you are telling me that because I bought early on good faith without even a car to test drive, that I don't get a jack and tools for my good will? !

Ok - I'm in today for the dash storage install, and the MFSW is happening at the same time. Crossing my fingers for a smooth re-flash for the cruise control. The dash storage should be no problem. Sweet CR/S MC loaner in the meantime.

I took delivery of a MC with a working storage compartment. it now has developed a rattle. I had the SW reflashed today and the SA is ordering parts to fix. I hope this fixes the rattle. I'd almost rather have it shut permanently with no rattle.

I've got my storage box now, it works perfectly, and no rattles or squeaks.

The MFSW also went in, but that did not go as smooth. Cruise control is not working and the car has to go back.
