Water in Fog Lamp... Common?

Just finished washing Scarlett and I noticed that she has some water in her driver's side fog lamp. WTF?! Is this common?

Water condensation in your lamp is probably due to moist air that is trapped inside your housing and then shows up when you wash the car with cold water. You probably have a leaking seal/ gasket on that lamp unit. Have your dealer check it.

Thats crazy, the same thing happend to me. Same side too. I took it back to the dealer and had it replaced in 1 day. If your luck is anything like mine, when I took it in, the condensation was gone. They replaced it anyway. Good luck!

It is very easy to gain access to the lamp by turning the front wheels either in or out. Look into the wheel well at the front and you will see 2 plastic plates. Unscrew the lower one this is to the parking light and the fog light. I don't recall if there is a seal on that plate or not but you could remove the light and wipe the lense if necessary.

im with dan, the access from behind is without a seal so some of the water could have condensed inside, I wouldnt worry too much, how long does it stay?

The "plate" in the fender liner is not sealed, but the lamp housing has a little rubber O-ring on each bulb socket, if my memory is correct.

The moisture will probaly evaporate quickly once you have the car's lights on. But if you don't want to wait for that, just remove the bulb socket (turn left a quarter turn and pull it out) and just let the socket air out for a while. It should dry out if it's any kind of warm/dry weather. Replace the socket and the access plate, and you're done...

Slightly off topic, but it reminds me of the episode of Family Guy where they go to England ... and Peter plays for the Silly Nanny's...

Condensation!!!

the condensation in mine builds up merely from temperature change... I haven't had any actual water go in from washing it. Mine is specifically condensation...Only reason I have concern about it is come the winter months, I wouldn't want any getting in there, and then freezing and possibly cracking...
Dealer told me the foglight has to be ordered from Germany...so needless to say I will be going back in when the part comes in for the warranty replacement.

Not the foglights, but I noticed this condensation in my tail light recently. I'm going to keep an eye on it and see if it reappears.

i just realized my passenger light fogs up as well... bleh, i took the tire off, removed the fender liner cap, then took out both bulbs, im going to let it dry, then plug everything back up and see if it fogs up again... if it does, i will take it to the dealership. Im thinking i should call ahead to see if they have the part so they could do a 1 stop swap. I dont want to have to leave the car their overnight for something so simple.

I encourage all to check your fog lamp lenses for small cracks. Louise is at the dealer as we speak getting the second fog light replaced.

Both lenses developed cracks running through them with no indication of any impact to the lens. Dealer suspects maybe a bad run of plastic during lamp assembly.

The heat from the lamp would be enough to crack the lens if the lens is of poor quality plastic.

The dealer has replaced both fog lamps under warranty due to there being no visible impact on the lens.

If you look closely the fogs and running lamps housing have a small hole that permits the heated air to vent from the unit.
