Skidplate? I'a don need no stinkin' skidplate -- specially now since I got this gem for $1.49 at the local electronics store. It had one more row of wires on either side that were specially bent for mounting but I trimmed them off and attached it with pop rivets.

Good idea at a hundreth of the cost.

I had to go "slow" thru some tall grass the other night and would have liked to have had something covering it because there was a little bottoming out going on...

Skid plate does alot more than just protect the steering fan. Great for keeping cones from getting stuck under the engine during that first run on the Auto-X. It happens to me every time.

Good point!!

and before I put on my skidplate, I was dodging evey piece of road trash that came my way... Just for the "peace of mind" factor, it is worth the $ cost and weight.

How much time does that skidplate cost you at the track due to the
increased weight.

Nothing thrills me more than nearly free mods with random parts from a hardware store! Great job!

Very similar to what I did. I just used rain gutter grilles, cut to fit and bolted it on. Since I've got a lowered MINI, the idea of paying good money for something that will be abused left and right bothers me. Rather just scuff the stock undertray. No big deal. But that crazy fan did have me worried.

Do you mind if I use that quote for the e-store?

I have the skid plate. 25 pounds doesn't affect your lines too much if any at all - add 50-80 pounds and you may miss some pep. Plus I'm a little modified. I'm sure the additions can overcome whatever extra the skid plate may have added.

I didn't have it this winter. I sure wish I did. It would have gave me more peace of mind.

I do all the work on my cars - well, work that I can do - maintainence and whatnnot. I don't even mind removing it each time I do an oil change because it's not that hard to do and it gives me a chance to clean it.

It's well worth its price!

Isn't there some type of spray you can apply to repel the rocks, grass and other foriegn materials?
I'm a spray type of guy.

Looks good Vespa!

One question, did you drill new holes for the rivets, or were those existing holes?

Cheers,
Ryan

Those are new holes. I looked the other day when changing my oil and saw that there are no holes except for the smaller pop rivets. You'd have to put in new holes.
