Questions About Stuff
I detailed the MINI today and found strange things. So, I'm at 7,500 miles, and I'm mounting quite a list of things that are not quite right. My question(s) is(are), how many of these will the dealership mess with? Is my first scheduled maintenance at 10,000 or when the car tells me to go in (which will be around 12,000-13,000)?
1. Rear window sprayer is leaking. (I've taken it in two times, but but they didn't have the part either time...hopefully the third time is a charm. I know they'll fix this one, but now I have a stain down the back of my car.)
2. Passenger side window is off the rubber track.
3. Windshield has a L-shaped cracked in the upper part of the window. No sign of any impact.
4. This one's a weird one that I found today. There are two areas on the top part of the boot that somehow managed to make it out of the factory without getting painted. I'm not sure how I went this long without noticing that.
5. I noticed this one during my last detail in early December. At that time I thought it might come off with some clay. Nope. There are little white dots on the passenger side door. They look like overspray. You can't feel them with your fingernail, so I'm guessing they're under the clear coat?
6. Moisture seems to be getting into the brake light that's on top of the boot.
7. Noticed this a few months after picking it up. I'm assuming this one will come out of my pocket. There's a dent at the top of the A-panel...I think that's what it's called. People that have seen it say it looks like a factory blip of some sort. I can't imagine how it could be a door ding. I never park next to anyone. And even if I did, in order someone to ding their door in that area they would have to be in one of those insane pickups with the huge wheels. This one will probably be like my back window that was scratched by the tinter. I'll have to pay.
Is most of this stuff covered under warranty? Should I even be concerned?

I'd say the sprayer, window, windshield, and brake light should be covered. As for the overspray, eh, lack of paint, and the dent; I can see them saying its some kind of defect and that they can't fix it since you already took delivery.
Many cars leave the factory without paint in the area you're talking about. The dealership can probably paint it...... but you'd risk other problems associated with them tearing down, painting, rebuilding the boot.
I think the missing paint has something to do with how the pannel is held for painting.
+1 on what Nabeshin said.

Are you sure you didn't actually get a Kia ?
I'd think MINI, with a history of pretty good customer service, will take care of your rear wiper leak, cracked windshield, pass door problem, and upper brake light under the warranty.
I'm not sure about the area with little/no paint. I would like to think they would also take care of that. I mean, geez, is it too much to expect the car to be completely painted out of the factory ? :impatient
As for the dent and the overspray... if they take care of those free of charge, I'd be shocked. Those really are things that should have been noted at the time you picked up the vehicle. Plus, it's more likely they happened after you picked it up than before.
Good luck and keep us updated on your fixes.

I should have looked the car over before delivery, but I didn't. Just out of college...first new car I've ever bought...and probably the last. My cars will be used from now on.
I assumed new cars didn't have anything wrong with them. I assumed wrong. Lesson learned. I would never have imagined that a new car could come with so many quirks.
