Navigation stopped talking

Help, has anyone else had this problem?

I have a 04 MCS with a stock Nav, and it stopped talking when giving directions. I made sure the volume is up on the settings and HU. I can hear the volume go down when its suppose to talk, but I don't hear anything. I don't know if this is related, but it happened after I installed an AUX cable for my ipod. I can't remember if the Nav talked after my ipod or not.

Thanks.

I would suggest you disconnect the battery for a short period... Let's say a complete night.

I've seen people having problems with their navi and done that. It fixed their issues...

I don't know if it will fix yours, but hey, it doesn't cost a penny to try!

It talks? Damn, I'm behind the times. Is it a female voice? Does it sound electronic or natural? Are there voice mods? Wouldnt it be cool to have it sound like Spock or Sulu? Better yet it should sound like the any of the Tachikomas from the anime Ghost in the Shell, that would be so cool.

Danny, et al:

When installing an AUX cable into the radio HU when a NAV is present, you will have a small conflict.
The connector that comes with the AUX has pins in it, and the same connector is already plugged into the back of the HU - for the purposes of getting the NAV SOUND into the speakers.
So if you remove the existing connector, you WILL LOSE nav sound!
You must CAREFULLY remove the pins from the aux connector and keep track of where they went!
then insert the pins into the corresponding spots on the existing connector. You're combining two connectors worth of wires into one. the AUX and NAV pins do not share spots at all. It will be easy if you pay attention to what you're doing.

Yes.
Fairly natural.
Yes - stock comes with an 'American' accent. It can be hacked to speak British ("Turn left in 300 feet to join the the motorway")
Spock - no way. "You're driving around for fun? That's not logical."
Sulu - uh-uh. Captain tells Sulu where to go, not the other way around.

Note that the hack is not required for many newer models. My 2005 came with British English (in addition to American English and Spanish) as one of the choices out of the box.

However, yes... if your MINI w/Nav did not come pre-programmed with British as an option, then you have to do the voice hack which (for those reading that don't know) basically involves modifying the software update disc to replace the american voice files with the british versions of the same files.
