I'm not sure I understand that, but I am glad, however, I did not get that option.

And does everyone seem to have better luck with PPG glass? If not, there's little point in replacing the window until the crack grows bigger...although, I would hate to see a crack in my windshield every time I walk up to my car.
Bummer,

Unfortunately I know the Safelite guys on a first name basis…three windshields and counting on my ’02 last year. While I don’t know your driving style, I have had bad luck on the track. Racing last year, I had the frame that holds the windshield flex to the point of cracking the glass in each corners. I almost think the frame is suffering from some kind of fatigue and has gotten weaker. Good Luck. It usually cost me about $250-275 a pop. I hope Mini has reinforced the windshield of the new Cooper...

Wonder if a stress bar would help the issue...

I had to have my windscreen replaced after I HAD to go out in the snow and got hit by an errant piece of gravel. It chipped the lower passenger side at the bottom of the glass and since there was a ding, I knew it was not stress related. Stressed me out though! It became progressively worse as the time went by until my appointment came up but I was not to be deterred from taking out my Mini for a spinny! The car had less than 300 miles on it. Make sure you have glass coverage as the perimeters of what is vs is not covered seem to vary state to state. My MINI is reggied in NC and they hassled me about it, but caved in (ha ha it's GEICO, pun intended!) after a few well-chosen words from me. $50 deductible instead of $500. Not too shabby. I went to Triumph Auto Glass in Wappinger's Falls NY, got OEM glass which they brought in from Prestige MINI and they seem to have done a very good job, even buried my Sirius antenna for me . It has only been a few rainless days since then but so far so good. They also give a warranty against leaks, etc. Hopefully this will be the end of it and gravel trucks beware of my wrath! BUT GET GLASS COVERAGE and make sure you know the terms to save you possible angst down the line, y'all!!!

Has anyone tried the Clearplex coating for windshield protection?

you don't HAVE to go to the dealer to get OEM glass, so for the guy who was quoted $1000, tell the dealer to shove it, and call a local independent shop in your area, they should be able to handle it just fine. The only difference is the windshield with rain sensor is a different part, but they should be able to get it just fine. I only paid $260ish for OEM glass replacement, by a local glass shop here in Raleigh. $1000 is just the dealer trying to rip you off. You need to use OEM glass for the rain sensor to work, not to mention, if you want to maintain your warranty against stress cracks.

I woke up this morning and figure the Mini needed a good wash. So as I pulled out of the my garage, I noticed "THE CRACK", middle of the windshield, L shape. I have an '06 cabrio and it sounds like Mini still hasn't figured out how to fix the problem.

Seem like some dealerships are aware of the situation and will replace the windshield under warranty.

I'll be calling my SA to see what they can do. For those that have had it replaced under warranty, any suggestion on how to handle this?

Thanks

Farmers covers it for a nominal extra insurance charge, something like $15 a year to lower the glass deductible to $100 or something like that. Have not had to use it yet, but based on the posts here at NAM sure sounded like a good idea.
