Separate rear windshield fluid pump?

Does anyone know where the pump is located for the rear windshield wiper fluid? Mine has gone out, and the dealer said I need a new pump (they tried just blowing out the line)... the front works fine, just not the rear.

I was thinking of replacing it myself if it's possible to reach it, but I'm not even sure where it is at.

a guess...

part #3 is the pump in this diagram from realoem.com.
im going to guess that you can get to this piece by removing the fender liner. justaguess, i dont really know. it seems strange to me that the dealer said that your rear pump is bad but the front is not... im pretty sure that theyre one in the same.

According to the all-knowing Greatbear in post #15 of this thread,

The front/rear washer reservoir has only one pump. It routes the fluid to the front or rear depending on which direction the pump turns, this is done by feeding the motor voltage in a different polarity for either front or rear.

If you look at the pump itself, it has one inlet and two outlets, the outlets coming off at opposite tangents to the pump housing. It's a clever, simple design.

If the front works fine it's somewhere in the line. Note that elsewhere in the linked thread, they talk about the rear line sometimes getting pinched by the bonnet.

Wait a minute, so based on that post, you can not have the front washer, and rear going at the same time? Well I gotta try that to see if it is true!

My rear sprayer quit working a while ago. I popped off the sprayer/cover from the arm and found it to be completely blocked up tight with crud (which looked like rust and road grime). Poking a small pick into the fitting (the center part of the wiper arm shaft that looks like a grease fitting) cleared the worst of it, and hitting the rear washer a few times cleaned it up the rest of the way. The little nozzle that's part of the cover is cleaned in the same way. Snap the cover back on and check/adjust the nozzle aim and it's done.

Fun to be had: Pop off the nozzle when you anticipate being in traffic with lots of tailgaters. Hit the rear washer when someone gets too close. The resulting stream of water ends up squarely on their windshield.

Thanks - it didn't make any sense to me that there would be two pumps. I'll check the line, how exactly does it run down the car? Along one of the sides or the center?

This recent useful thread tracked down where the washer relays are hidden which can cause a similar fault:-

Those that are getting blocked rear nozzles with rusty looking stuff may want to dig deaper. The rust stuff comes from the inside of the motor. the washer fluid path flows through the wiper arm motor housing. The seal leaks and fills the housing with washer fluid that ruins the gear lube, rusts the gears and clogs the nozzle.

If you take the back cover off off the motor it will be obvious. I'm am going to try finding an alternative to the rubber seal, either o-rings or getting creative with silicone. Maybe both. Clean out the gears and use the closet to stock lube I can find. As far as I know. the motor comes complete with the gasket and is not available seprerately.
