I just changed my oil at 5100 miles. It was BLACK, not at all like what it looked like when I pick up the car. Put in the AMSOIL that I won when Zappa did his giveaway in Jan/Feb. I'm planning on getting my free change at the dealer @ 10,000 and seeing what it looks like 5,000 miles later. I'll make the decision then.
The change was really easy, once I discovered that the oil filter is at the opt of the motor, not the bottom. Followed the instructions I got from MCO and barely spilled a drop.

I hear ya,
Thanks for mentioning me. look at me oil analysis HERE and that is at 13,000 miles. I currently have 17,000 on that same oil (2nd oil filter) and next month I am driving from Dallas to Superrior, Wisconsin which will be another 2800 miles. Then I'll do my third analysis. I will take the sample before the filter change expecting the analysis to tell me to change the filter.. This will be interesting because when I did the Miata (analysis also on my web site) I added a bit more oil because the standard filters cause you to loose more oil when you remove it, thus raising the TBN and stabilizing the viscosity.

The amount I pull from the sample helps me replinish oil but this in not reflected in the actual sample taken..

Last, Cooper Flags Matt has just pulled a sample on his 10,000 mile old "MINI BMW" origional oil!! So it will be interesting to compare. Stay tuned!
