I'm continuously reading the threads in that category. It has not dissuaded me from purchasing the car. All cars will have "niggles". The larger problems that have arisen (steering wheel stalk, fuel leak, panel gaps, etc) have been discovered and addressed in a timely fashion.
I'm thankful for that thread, because if anything does happen I'll be prepared and informed.

I've not had a sinlge problem or rattle or gripe in the 3 months and 1800 miles I've had my MCS.

That's good to hear, I still cant believe you've already had the new MINI for 3 months! that sounds like such a long time
No worse than the R50/53 so far... and that model has had 5 years to sort everything out.

Before anyone shrugs off the OPs link to that page, please take the time to read what Mr. Mull is going through.

While the argument can be made that there is a lemon in every bunch, the treatment he is receiving from BMW is inexcusable.
If the owner of one, if not, the largest Mini Forum in the world (and BMW knows damn well who he is) can get told to stuff it like that, think of how well you all will be treated on the "off" chance you get a lemon.

Where in the original post was it stated that this was a comparison of the R56 to the R53? Of course there's going to be more problems on the R53--its been out longer. But none of that is the point. The number of problems seen on the R53, and apparently now the R56 really are unacceptable. This is not a R56 bashing thread, but a Mini quality issue. And the five years of sorting out the R53 HAS made a difference--the 2005/2006 are reliable, and now are recommended by CR (Not the best source of car ratings, but at least the reliability ratings have merit). The problem is it may take another 5 years to sort the R56 out. I hope not, but it was a concern of mine from day one.
The most disturbing thing about the this is how Paul was treated. That crosses all platforms...
The R56 is new from the ground up, as we all know. The previous generation had many faults to begin with, as this one will too (BMW itself has a less than stellar track record on brand new releases). Its why I'd stay away from the first year R56--things will get better, but its going to take a year, probably two at least. If reliability is concern number one, get a 2006. If not, and you live close to a dealer, it's reasonable to get an R56 first year out, as long as your aware that there's a certain amount of risk involved.
