brake question

my mini cooper is producing a high pitch sound when breaking, brought to the dealer for break inspection and they say its fine, and the sound is normal -.- so any idea why is this happening? will changing the break pads help? any advice?

Do you have alot of brake dust? If you do, thats the problem, if not...don't know what to tell you?

Most cars will produce a high pitched squeal just prior to breaking...this is accompanied by crunching sounds and often breaking glass.

If you are producing these sounds while braking, well that is just not good.

Sorry, couldn't help myself

My brakes "squeal" a little bit, (short sound, not prolonged). Had some fresh tires put on last week, (at a reputable shop) and they told me the brakes look good. Irksome. (I'll hit 20k while at lunch today).

OK, try this...
Find a nice empty parking lot (wher cops are not watching) and drive in reverse as fast as is safe, and hit the brakes MODERATLY, not enough to lock them up, but use firm pressure. Do this a few times and see what happens. The idea is to sort of back flush the dust that has accumulated in all the little pores in the pads. It has worked well for me in the past, and I've had lots of satisfied customers. Please make sure you do this in a safe environment and know what is around you (islands, parking stops, etc.)

Ditto on the backing up and breaking method. We call it deglazing!
