Stock Problems/Issues Discussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Cooper (R50), Cabrio (R52), and Cooper S (R53) MINIs.

Is there anyone out there who HAS NOT had MC/MCS problems?

One MAJOR complaint - haven't been able to drive it for more than a year being down range. My HMMWV was deadlined 3 times however Don't sweat it.

Repairs

I hope nobody has problems. My 03 had no problems either in the first 3K miles, but had tons later, and my dealer was sold three times in the interim.

Good luck to everyone and knock wood. Window motors, locks, and door releases are notorious.

I bought my '03 MCS with 46K. now has 78K. I changed the brake pads, did the routine maintenence and had a few little problems which cleared up after I read the "What you don't know about your MINI thread" (the passenger window that sometimes wouldn't work) ((you turn the key on, then wait for the red light on the fuel gauge to go off (OBD doing it's thing)before starting))
I have created a couple problems through operator error, but the car is ROCK SOLID. I collapsed my lifters - there is a questionable oil situation - but I don't check it every time I get gas either...We got hit by a Nissan Armada while stopped at a red light- no injuries. I've also bought an '06 which just clicked 8k. There is no AHVIV either!!

Just about to turn 30,000 on my 05 MCS. Knock on wood, I have no complaints. Every time I get in it I am glad I bought it.

I bought my 2002 MCS some 7 weeks ago. I am loving it. It had 47K on it. I have a sheaf of paperwork from the original owner, apparently this one had some rattles and transmission issues. All fixed.

In my possession, it has blown a few power steering fuses. (I know where the damn fuse IS, now. I guess i should get some more 5 amp fuses).

I see no mushrooming (If there was any, now doubt my roommate would eat them) . MAYBE MY BIGGEST problem with the car is this this newly developed compulsion to pour money into, even faster than I am saving by driving instead of my pickup (Tundras are total gas-pigs). In 7 weeks I have spent more $ on doodads and such than I spent on the tundra, which I bought new in 2001! I could even include replacement tires and the statement would be true.

It is the most fun driving that I have experienced over a dozen years! I am thinking of selling and getting JCW version tho.........

i'm on my second MINI. The first one was a 2003 Cooper that I put almost 50K miles on. I had only a few minor problems (it was really a very early build in the grand scheme of things, and most of the problems were solved by reseting one of the various computers that run our cars), and a sunroof that was replaced under warranty. The sunroof wasn't really that much of an issue, and probably would have lasted until I traded the car in.

My current MINI is a 2006 Cooper S Cabrio with 22K miles (I drive a LOT). The ragtop was replaced shortly after I got the car, and I did have a mushroomed strut tower, but the roads up here in Maine are HORRIBLE. The mushrooming is easily prevented with the installation of a M7 Strut Tower Brace or Strut Reinforcement Plates. I just got back from a Middle East deployment, and am getting ready to go back out in a few months. The wife actually drove the Cabrio a lot while I was gone. She loves the car almost as much as I do.

is it worth it?

MINI problems

MINI #1 - replaced window motor, two windshields, PS Pump, oil pan gasket
Lets now add in, routine service (expensive) all tell about $2500 out of pocket

MINI #2 - replaced BCM, main computer, crank sensor, rear 02, both window motors, windshield all under warranty but with both cars it's the PIA of having to drive 2hrs to the dealer

The part that makes me the most upset is them never seeming to get things done right the first time and me having to go back...2hr drive each way again...oh yea and the other person that has to drive up to bring me back and take me back up

Local dealer might be nice or even if I could take it to the BMW dealer that is only 25mi away.

'03 MCS, all kinds of toys 22k maybe 4 sale

probably anyone who doesn't own one would qualify . even though they are a cheap car ; given all the times you have to say "well, it's a mini after all " i've come to conclude that unless you enjoy modding and maintainance ; it really is a piece .

Just added a steering rack and alternator to the MC...$2700, I ranted and raved and the factory MINI guy cut me a break on the rack since I just had the PS pump replaced and within a month the rack went bad.

But it's still going to be $1600 for the repair with the other $1800 that's $3400 in 9 weeks on the MINI...still books at $12k so I guess it's worth it. I just want to make it to 110k before I trade.

I drive mostly highway miles so PRAY the CVT hangs in there (paying $190 to get it serviced while it's up there)

Ask me at 110k what I'm getting, if I don't have another repair...it'll be a MINI (hopefully a clubman)

MINI Problems?

I'm also on my 2nd! My 02 had a noise from 2nd >3rd gear, but MINI of Nashville replaced the transaxle and clutch and off I went(warranty). Now my 07 MCS is doing well (Knocking on wood)! My son just got the key stuck but that is brain fart, not MINI. Remember; Stay alert, stay alive!

10,000 miles on my 2006 MCS and zero problems. I did have to pay $225 for the first service (Canada), which I thought was expensive.

A year and a half and almost 30k later, the only warranty problem I've suffered was my a/c was leaking freon or something like that; 3 days at the dealership and she was golden again.

Very reliable @ 76,000 miles...

I have an '02 MC with the infamous CVT automatic transmission. I had the driver side window motor replaced under warranty, but no other problems. This has been a terrific car and I plan to keep it until I die, then be buried in it. I know that I will need to make repairs, sometime. Over my 44 years I've learned that cars like to be driven frequently(not just as a hobby car), and keep the oil (both engine and transmission) changed frequently with synthetic oil. The only car I've ever owned that was a lemon was a Triumph TR-7. I recommend that you just keep reminding your wife to keep the car serviced while you're away.
You mentioned a Honda Something Si- at least in the Mini you won't be mistaken for a gang member who has one just like yours and get you shot at. God speed to you and may you come back home unscathed. May your family stand tough for you and be proud of you for your return. -Jeffy.

wow.. I checked your history of posts and you have had alot of problems! Much more than is normal.

That's the problem with buying used cars. Somebody wanted out of it for some reason. Could be they just wanted a newer model or could be they were having problems with it.
