'02S-Brief power cut-out

Hi all; Just found this site, so I'm new and have a question (and I didn't see this topic elsewhere). My '02 S (28K mi) seems to hesitate, like the power is cutting out briefly after I accelerate and when I ease back on the throttle slightly. Its just not as smooth as it should be. Has anybody had or heard about this issue? Any help would be appreciated

Hello and welcome to NAM!
I also drive an 02 MCS (43K), and I think I can relate to your description of this hesitation. I don't know what causes this, but I think that an engine damper may help solve the problem. Does anyone with a newer Mini have this sensation?

on my '06 MCS, there are only two times when I notice hesitation:
1. if there's any wheel slippage involved, then the stability control will "interfere"
2. with a manual tranny, if you don't give enough gas from a standing start you can get a bit of hesitation in first. that would be below maybe 1500rpm.

if these don't jive with your situation, you've probably got a service issue.

It may be the fly-by-wire connection, the responses are not always 100% instant. There are some updates that make it better, my '05 was horrible until it had the last (latest ?) update - felt like the throttle was connected via elastic...

I've had that on my '02. At first I thought it was an engine issue, but I've pretty much decided it's just the ASC kicking in. The ASC is actually rather annoying, I can feel it working when I take spirited turns, and not turns that are even near "out of control" speeds.
