Inspection expectation?

I have a 2002 build 2003 with only 19,700K miles on it, and it's out of warranty. My "Miles Inspection" is reading at 1,000K miles left to go... at this point, what should I expect to pay for my next service and what will the dealership go over on the car? When I got it at 16,000K it had apparently had the works done... new brake fluid, oil change, the whole shebang.

More than it is worth. I would advise finding a local mechanic that can do the work. I never use a dealer after warranty unless I really have to.

Also, if all this was done during the works installation, then you should be fine. The indicator may have not been reset after installation.

Well, when I got it the indicator read 5,000 left to go. So I think it was.

Oh, I actually have an extended warranty that covers just about everything, but I'm not sure if that's good for when I have to take it in. Thoughts?

After 16 million miles, it could probably use another oil change.

Seriously, though, around here (SF Bay Area) a 'Oil change' is $90 and an 'Oil Service' (aka 'Minor Service') is $210. With the minor service they change the cabin filter and check other various and sundry bits. Prices should be similar down there.

Unless you're having significant issues, I'd look for a local independent BMW shop - should be cheaper.

Some have said Inspection 1 is due at 25K, but I'm not sure:

Good catch Eric, I didn't even catch that. Need more coffee this morning.

If you warranty covers it than go for it. A simple phone call should give you that information. Here in Germany, service is not included in the MINI buying deal (even with a US Spec car) so it is hard for me to say.

However, just remember that if you have to pay, going to a dealer is going to be WAY over what is normally charged for the same inspections.
