Disabling Security Motion Alarm

Sorry, but I wasn't quit sure where to post this question. The factory Mini security alarm on my '02 MCS detects a variety of things, one of which is motion in the cabin when the system is activated. Can this motion feature be deactivated while retaining door security etc., and would I have to take it to a Mini dealer to do so?

There's a way to do it, though I can't recall at the moment. You either lock the door with the key, or press the lock button twice, or press and hold. Something like that.:impatient
Definitely doesn't require a dealer (unless nobody here recalls the proper sequence.)

Thanks for your time Eric. Mindless me just realized that a thread search was in order. (should have done that first). Sounds like I will have to visit the nearest Mini dealer. Unfortunately, the dealers are about 700 miles away. (JD)

how about remove the motion sensor? Its just contained in the box above the rear seats. Simply unclip it from the box and unclip the wire.

Hey! That's cheating!

Voila!
It works, found out if you hit the lock button twice on your key it will disable the motion and tilt sensor. One day i had hit it only once and went to jack up my car to change wheels and tires and got siren in my face.

Now that's interesting. I'll grab my cat, turn him loose in the Mini, arm the system as per your instruction, and see what happens! lol

No meows of desperation, loose fur, or scratches. A 10 minute "kitty test" indicates that the key fob "double click" solution works. I thank you, and my cat really thanks you! Another test tomorrow, after my cat regains his composure. We did the test in my garage to avoid the usual scene in public. My cat loves to ride in the Mini, but hates being scared whit less by the alarm when left alone in a locked car at the convenience store. Perhaps he might even consider autocross now!
