Ticking when stopped

I've had my MINI almost two weeks now. When I'm stopped, I hear a 'ticking' sound from underneath the car. It kinda sounds like when you park and you can hear the metal cooling, but it's louder. Anyone have any idea what this could be? Is it normal?

Thanks!

2 weeks check your oil (they tend to burn a little during break-in). MINIs have hydralic lifters that could be making noise, or oyur flywheel is acting up.

Forgot to mention a pretty big detail.. it does this whether the car is on or parked just after driving, which is why I thought (and it may well be) that it was just cooling metal.. but it does seem a bit loud and i can kinda 'feel it' in my feet when im sitting in it.

Again check the oil.

Any signs of oil on the passenger side of the motor?

Auto or Manual?

Isn't that more of an occasional ping than ticking? But I have heard it and I can understand how it would be described that way, good point/catch.

Yeah, I guess it probably is the cat... It just seemed louder than other cars I've had, and weird that it would do it while the car is running, not just when its parked and cooling down... I will check for oil though.

Could it be the throwout bearing? Is the clutch in or out? Try depressing the clutch to see if that eliminates the noise.

Doesn't matter if the clutch is in or out, or if the car is on or off.

(Me Too Post)

My wife's '03 MC w/CVT does the same thing. It's a loud clicking noise that repeats a few times after the car is shut off.

I've ignored it so far, assuming it just part of the exhaust cooling down and contracting. I've never heard that noise so loud on other cars...
