Stupid Airbag Light

So for the past week the airbag light behind the Flava'flav speedo has been on. Also the orange/yellow one near the sunroof control has been on.

It stays on weather I have a some on in the shotgun passenger seat or not... Any one have any idea what the deal is?

Could be a bad sensor, drop by the dealership for a reading and possible warranty repair/replacement.

Don't feel bad, mine just started this as well. My seatbelt light also comes on with periodic chiming (with or without a passenger).

Off to the dealer next week. When I did call, they said no safety risk with the light on. Also they said the yellow airbag deactivated light is always on when there is no passenger - can't remember this to be true but I now notice it. Could be because it is now darker in the morning.

That doesnt sound right. Mine isnt always on. It comes on when
i have too much junk on the seat, but otherwise that light
doesn't go on.

I think you're right. It is such a brite yellow light that I'm sure I would have noticed it before. I bet it is all caught-up in this faulty airbag / seat belt sensor light thing going on. I will press harder when at the dealer next week.

It is the OPDS sensor, get replaced ASAP as this could keep the passenger airbag from deploying in the event of an accident. Mine went last year and was taken care of right away.

The light on the headliner is a system check light...NOTHING to do with deploying a airbag.

The red light on the dash is the one to worry about. Most likely, its the passenger side seat mat which is in the lower seat cushion. VERY common problem and ive done tons of them.

My airbag light came on Sunday and I have an appointment Tuesday to get it fixed at Moritz. There was no suprise or additional questions once I mentioned what the problem was.

Hope I don't get tricked

I had this issue for 17k miles, call up your dealer explainit they'll order the parts and a week later set you up with an apointment. I'm assuming its and 05. The ocnnector comes loose on the passenger side with the weight sensor and the airbag system detects an issue. Only BMW/MINI dealers can re-set the light and for it to stay off they must refit you with a properly designed connector which means nw weight sensor which means seat has to come out for a day. Its not a fun process. Knauz in Lake Bluff IL helped me out.

BMW/Mini bought are 06 MCS because they could not fix the sensor in the passenger seat! BMW/Mini has an on going issue with this! I hope someone you love doesn't dye because the air bags don't deploy if they are needed!

Be Safe!

I took mine in yesterday for this airbag light thing, the dealer called later that afternoon to say they needed to order a part and it would probably be Monday. Meantime they gave me a nice 06 PS MCSCa to play with. It sure is faster off the line, makes me think about trade-in values.

They still have her. Called me Monday to say the replacement sensor was faulty as well - had to order another. Called me yesterday to say the replacement, replacement sensor is good - but won't talk to anything else. So keeping it another day. Jeez

Call from the dealer - replacing airbag unit. He said everything else checks out so it must be the actual airbag unit itself. Guess what - they have to order it. Oh well, I'm still a S driver for another day.

Airbag light is on because the voltage sensing / cutoff unit next to the battery has a low voltage code. Dealer ordered a new battery cable and will replace it Monday. Wonder who did the mapping of codes to dash lights?:impatient

If that light is on it means the airbag will not be deploying, so, yea, it has a lot to do with deploying an airbag. I appreciate that your intent is to help, but that is potentially fatal information.
To clear it up, if the passenger seat is vacant the light is off, but the airbags will not deploy on that side of the car. If an adult sits in the seat, the light is still off, but the airbags are active. If a child sits in the seat the light should be on, to indicate the bags are deactivated. If the light does not come on it means the kid needs less burgers and should sit in the back. Ok, I'm kidding about the burgers, but if it is a case of the child growing out before growing up, there could be concerns of where the airbags hit them during deployment.

This afternoon a call from the dealer - they are emailing info to MINI in NJ and receiving "ideas" to try. Computer inputs are being sent and codes are being returned. Probably won't get the analysis back from the last set of codes until Monday.
End of week 1

Just got a call from the dealer, he said not much is going to happen with my MINI today or tomorrow since the mechanic assigned to the "project" has some days off. Great - have some good days off dude. Meanwhile I'm still in the loaner S.

ouch that sux... hope that guy gets back from his vacation soon. Seems wierd I mean you think any tech could fix some seats.

As for me my light is still on. I hate it. lol. And now periodically the seatbelt light/bell will come on until I buckle the passenger seatbelt.

This leads me to believe it's the weight sensor in the passenger seat going bad and not just bad wiring.

Ice>Link Plus Being Blamed

So the dealer called today still working the issue. He did say that they think it is being caused by my Ice>Link Plus. I said no way that is possible to which he said that they have seen it before. Fine I said I'm not doubting that at all, it is just that I installed my Ice>Link Plus a week AFTER the airbag light and seatbelt light started malfunctioning. Oh says he, never-mind .
I wonder if anyone else has had their Ice>Link Plus implicated for the airbag light issues?

So now they think it is the HK amplifier not the Ice>Link Plus. They have ordered another amp and will be replacing that today.

Friday, got my MINI back - two weeks at the dealer. They replaced the sensors, some wires and the amplifier. They told me that after everything was said and done it was the amplifier that was the cause of the fault, but then they had to also removed my Ice>Link Plus because they said it was preventing proper communication. Has anyone had this issue with their Ice>Link Plus?
Also while I was cleaning it today I noticed a dent in the door sill and some deep scratches in the trim - looks like they dropped the seat while they were installing the amp. Back to the dealer on Monday to get this fixed.

I put in the OEM iPod Adapter disconnecting the negative terminal anytime I was working with wires. The morning after the airbag light came on when I started it and has been on since. Don't know about the iceLink but the electric system seems resistant (nug nug) to change. I hope they can just reset the code next time I take in.
