02 MC will not start - help

It is as 1/02 build date, has just 10k miles, has been sitting for several months while I replaced my dash wiring harness (the tach harness plug was "clipped" along with the tach being stolen). I ran it since the theft with no problems. I was pretty careful when I replaced the harness, so that I do not think any plugs were left unplugged. Battery is new.

I sprayed starting fluid into the air intake and got it to immediately start and run as long as I kept the spray going. The fuel pump runs when the key is first turned to start, then stops when (I am assuming) pressure is up. I added a gallon of fuel just to make sure fuel was in the tank.

So, I am thinking that something is preventing the injection from functioning.

I am not sure of what to check next.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

see if you can open the fuel door then open the fuel line to the rail and see if you get pressure through the line to a bucket or something be careful of the pressure.

Doesn't it seem that even if the injectors were dirty (remember only 10K original miles) wouldn't the engine still run?

Eventhough the pump runs when the key is turned to start, you think that there is a reasonable chance of no fuel pressure?

i just did a sending unit today. thats the one on the right side of the fuel tank and when you turn the key on the sending unit also runs.

pull off the back lower seat cushion and remove the cover from the fuel pump(left cover). then turn the key on and hear to make sure that it's the pump runing and not just the sending unit.

and i would still check pressure at the fuel rail. just to completely discard the fuel pump from being the problem.

good luck!

No pressure at the fuel rail. I will check the relay. Assuming it is OK, pulling the pump seems like the next step.

So, when you say the sending unit is on the right side of the tank, do you mean the inside the the driverside tank on the right? I do not see anything outside of the driverside tank other than the fuel lines running down the front side of it.

If I have to pull the fuel pump, do I make a tool to rotate what appears to be a formed metal cap that sits on top of the pump?

Thanks for any advise.
