JCW Air Filter Maintenance

My MCS is in for service and I get a call telling me the JCW air filter replacement is $180. (I know there are cheeper units aftermarket.)

Is this filter cleanable? If this is a paper filter, the price seems very high. If it is similar to a K&M filter, it should be cleanable.

The SA does not know and is looking for the answer. That is a little distrubing for a factory part.

I'm curious how long your filter lasted. Especially since you are just down the road from me.

We were just talking about this over on metroplexmini.org. I think I am going with the aftermarket substitute when it comes time.

My best guess is that unless it's very dusty where you drive 30,000 miles should be replacement time. At that time or sooner if you need to, buy a washable element filter for it.

Although the filter is huge the crankcase breather gunk will still foul it, even if outside air does not.I just installed the JCW intake and when I need to replace the element I will not pay big money for a replacement. Its just a cone filter ,the diesel PU guys are using Donoleson(?) they may have a close substitute.

Here's a thread on how to retrofit a K&N Filter Element into the JCW airbox.

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=62783

The JCW paper filter is priced like it is made of gold leaf instead of paper.
