Hi all! Been a while, tis the season (track) you know. Anyhoo, a couple of days ago, I start the car up and the power steering pump is whining like crazy, hands off the wheel, not steering, just sitting there at idle. Where it was never really noticable before, all of a sudden, its extraordinairily loud and irritating. Its undoubtedly the PS system as turning the steering wheel varies the sound. Presumably something has decided that the pump needs to be working full time. Three questions. A) Given the sudden increase in volume, is failure imminent? (Might be interesting to see how hard the car is to drive without PS) B) Is there any lubrication or service that is performed on the pump? C) Anyone else experienced this sudden increase in noise level, and if so how was it resolved?
