passenger seat puckers

Isn't that a great subject title?

Anyway, my 2006 MCSa has the black leatherette sports seats, and I noticed there are two round "puckers" in the material on either end of the seat, about 4" from the seatback. Is this a material defect? They aren't on the driver side seat, and there weren't any in my 2003 CVT also with black leatherette sports seats.

When I feel the spots, it feels like there is nothing underneath (no foam material) that is bunched up causing the puckers, it's more like that actual leatherette covering is puckered in those two spots.

Am I being too picky, or should I ask for a new seat?

Boognish, mine has the EXACT same issue...black leatherette in an 06 MCSa. I'm not picky enough to be worried about it (unless it gets worse).

That's interesting, Chimera...probably just a coincidence, but my 06 MCSa (July 06 build) is also SB/S. Hmmmm...maybe they reserve the puckered seats for SB/S MCSa's only.

rock on,

My 2005 MCS, leatherette passenger seat had a very noticible bump like that. They replaced the seat cover. The new seat cover had a smaller bump. From what I've heard, the bumps are caused by the passenger airbag weight sensor. Anybody else heard that?

Hmmm...passenger airbag weight sensor? Doesn't sound quite right, I mean, I've pressed down on these "bulges" in the leatherette and there is nothing underneath them but soft foam...there are no protrusions or anything underneath the bumps. At first I thought it was some sort of storage issue at the factory...as if the seat covers were stacked on top of something for a long period of time, causing the leatherette to stretch out of shape in these two areas only.

I've got an appt. at the dealer on Monday, i'll point it out and see what they say.

It is the passenger seat airbag sensor. It's a flat sensor like a thick piece of paper. Depending on the pressure applied to it, the resistance changes and thats how the computer knows if something heavy enough is in the seat to turn the airbag on. The way it is stitched into the seam makes the seat pucker. I was told that I would be called when they had a fix for it and that they were working on a fix, but that's been months and I still haven't heard anything. It's in all of them, some are worse than others.

Do you have heated seats? I was told by the Service supervisor at my dealer that they were the heating elements!!
