My 2003 MCS is acting a little odd. It seems to be going through coolant/water fast. When I get out of the car I sometimes smell coolant and the fan runs after the car is off.

Is this symptomatic of the leaky coolant tank problem?

 

If your coolant tank leaks, you should be able to notice it with a quick visual inspection.

Check for leaks around the cap, of at the middle of the tank.

 

Yep, leaking around the seam in the middle. Can anyone recommend a good place to get a replacement?

 

If its around the middle then you probably have one of the older tanks which were replaced under a MINI recall. Might be worth checking with a local MINI dealer.

 

Check for the leaks around the seam half-way up the tank. As mdsbrain said, this should have been fixed and your local dealer should fix it for free.

You'll also see some white chalky deposits on the heat shield beneath the tank if it is leaking.
