Dear NAM subscribers,
I have a 2002 Mini Cooper S and After about 40,000 miles the clutch has this very bad squeal when you start off. It only happens in the forward direction not the reverse. This clutch makes this sort of squealing noise right when it contacts. I was wondering if anyone has or had the same problem and how they are or did deal with it. If I have to replace the clutch I was wondering if there are any good after market clutches available and who could install it.

mine has a slight squeal for 1st gear, but only seems to happen sometimes, usually on first drive in the morning. i only have 24K on it, so Id be shocked if it was actually a bad clutch - i dont know though?

 

Do a search on clutch squeal,theres a big file of info there.

 

clutch could be bad, or it could be glazed a little bit which would be making the squealing sound.

 

Mine did the same thing. Dealer said it was glazing, and they are replacing the clutch under warrenty.
