Window not working properly

Hey Mini gurus. I have a Mini emergency with my windows. The windows, both driver and passenger sides, randomly fail to work. I'll jump in one morning and one or the other won't go down. Luckily so far, they've always gone up. This has happened 2 or 3 times so far. I think twice on the passenger side and once on the driver side. A day or so later, the misbehaving window will start functioning normally again.

I've been putting off a trip to the dealer as the problem has been pretty irregular. It's been happening over the past month or so. But, this weekend, I have a track day with the BMW club. I'm worried that I'm gonna get there Sat AM and my windows won't go down. And then, I think they won't let me drive.

So, does anyone have any clues as to what may be the issue? Any tricks that might get the windows working again? I've tried the motor reset thing (hold the window switch up for 5 sec). I've also tried disconnecting/reconnecting the battery. Neither has had any effect.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Derek

Take them out Fri. night

How long did you have the battery undone?

See if you can get an appointment ASAP.

Never mind. Man, this place is great. I should have done a search before posting. Oops. So, I came across a couple of threads that mentioned problems with the window motors. The problems seemed related to high temps which we have had out here. I think it was over 100 today (pretty hot for CO).

Someone suggested giving the door a good whack a few inches above the speaker grille. Being someone who loves hitting things when they don't work, I ran out and tried it. Like magic, the window started working again. Hopefully this trick will work for me this weekend if I need it. I'll get a service appt scheduled after that. Apparently, some new window motors are in my future.

The slam technique is okay temporarily, but if you are still under warranty, Derek, definitely take the MINI in when the windows are malfunctioning and get the motors replaced. I had my passenger window motor replaced just before the end of warranty!

And, yes...have fun racing!

Careful some of us guys would have skipped the pounding the door part and just replaced it with a more powerful motor at the first sign of trouble

Yeah, I'll definitely be taking it in. Still under warranty. I think I have a year and a half left or so. Maybe I'll get a convertible loaner. Last time, it was the middle of winter. I threw the kids in the back and put the top down anyway. That was a blast! The kids really loved that. Even though it was around 35... Maybe a Mini for mom someday.

I'm really looking forward to the track day this Saturday. It will be my second. I did the Phil Wicks out at AMVIV this past March. What a blast! Highly recommended!

Faster the window moves the quicker I can get through the tolls (if any of those coin ones are still left out there)

Some of us just can't leave well enought alone.

Wicks was a good time , who you running with this weekend, I'm gonna try and get a few more NASA runs in on top of a few autocrosses.

Be sure to give it that signature MINI "dolphin-esque" whine!

Yes, the Wicks track day was a lot of fun. This weekend's track day is with the BMW club, Rocky Mountain Chapter. We're running at Pueblo Motorsports Park. www.pueblomotorsportspark.com. I'll probably be surrounded by a sea of M3s. They'll blow my doors off in the 1/2 mile straight. Maybe I'll be able to make up some time through the curves.
