Power failure while driving

Power failure while driving
Has anyone else experienced something along these same lines?
My wife and I were driving in Gryffon Saturday afternoon (90 degree Atlanta, GA weather with AC on, but under no heavy acceleration or load otherwise), when all power shut out. He's a 2003 Cooper S with around 26K, and I just had the Service I completed.
When the power cut out, all of the gauges stayed in the exact same position...after I rolled to a stop out of harm's way, the RPMs still registered 2500, and my speedometer still read 22mph. I could not restart the car. When we initially left the house in the morning, we noticed that the clock was not at the right time, and my trip odometer had been reset to zero.
Does anyone know what this might be? By the time the tow truck came to cart Gryffon off to the dealership, the power was back on, but now I hope that they can duplicate the issue. Could it just be a bad battery? Alternator?
Any ideas are welcomed!
My wife's Corolla is boring to drive, and I want my MINI back!!!
