Couple of issues with my MC CVT ...

Ok, so 2 specific things have crept up recently and have me a bit worried ... no actual "problems" yet, as car runs fine ... but maybe it is something I should look at.

#1: after even a brief run in the city, ie: less than 1 hr., once I shut off the car, the radiator fan still keeps running for a good 5 minutes or so ... this started happening a few months ago. Was not really worried too much, but I feel a little uneasy with the hot weather coming.

I know some of you had this happen ... is this normal? or should I have it checked?

#2: I have a clicking noise in my tranny, when switching into Reverse (have a CVT) ... this just started happening a month ago or so.

#3: also those of you with CVT, what is the mileage when you had the fluid changed? I hear the dealer does it at 30K ... how much truth is to this?

Thanks for all your input ...

I don't have a MINI CVT, but I've owned other auto-transmission cars in the past. Having the radiator fan running after you shut off the ignition is perfectly normal, especially in hot weather and in city driving. Just keep an eye on the temp gauge once in a while to make sure it's in the normal range.

I have an '03 Cooper CVT. When I run the car hard, the fan goes on after I shut the car off. It's normal, as the poor thing has to cool off somehow...

I had my tranny and oil fluids changed when I had my first inspection at around 25k.

As for the clicking noises you are experiencing, no, I haven't had them yet. I would take the car in to get checked out if they continue to make you uneasy.

yes a lot of people tell me that the fan staying on is normal ...

however, I am close to 3 years owning this car and this just started happening in the last few months ... never before.

The only reversing problen I have had came earlier this month at the Dragon. Again, this was after some hard running, but I noticed it didn't want to go into reverse at all. I was at the Chili Dinner at Tapoco and was hungry, so I fretted thru dinner and then gingerly tried it as I was about to return to Fontana. It must have been part of the general overheating scheme, because the reverse mode worked fine and has not been a problem since.

CVT/Fan

I have an 06MCC/CVT and experienced the fan thing after I ran the A/C on my commute home. It didn't continue running after I turned off the ignition, but the fan was working overtime at idle. And it wasn't very hot outside maybe 82F. Thats the only time it has happened so far.

ok, so I was quite low on coolant ... it took 2 fills of the reservoir to bring it back to normal levels ... where is the "doh" smiley I am looking for?

so the fan issue is gone ...

now on to the tranny issue ...
