Help! Power lag on cold start

Hi all,

Please forgive me if this question has been asked and answered before.

I have an '05 MCS, manual (which MINI will be buying back for a separate issue). For the last month or so, there has been a lack of power upon cold starts. When I put the car into first gear and hit the gas, there is literally almost a 2-second delay in power. The engine hangs at idle and threatens to stall as I let up off the clutch. The problem goes away as the engine warms up. I recall seeing someone else here or on another forum have the same issue. Not only is this issue unnerving, but potentially dangerous if I have to pull into traffic. What's the fix? I have my car scheduled to go into the dealer on May 23rd.

Second issue: For the past two weeks, the car won't start on the first try when cold. It dies on the first try, then will start on the second try. Of course, then comes the power lag.

As a side note, the SES light has been on since November. I've taken it in 7 different times, with the dealer performaing 7 different fixes, and the light always comes back on within a day, which is why I'm giving it back.

Thanks for your help!

Your second issue: I had that problem, too. I switched gas stations, and the problem went away. It's probably a gas issue.

I'm encountering a similar issue with my car hating to be cold. Can't wait to hear what the fix might be for this.

having that issue too. had the same problem last year around this time. chalking it up to the change-over in gas to summer blend (yes, it's real and not a myth)

I figure in a couple of weeks it'll be back to normal.. like it was last year. The problem is actually worse right now around here, I think, because it's chilly and wet in the mornings.
