HELP!!! I have a gremlin in my mini!

Okay, straight to it. I went to work this morning in Portland Maine, driving 40 miles in a torrential downpour, parked my car, and came out 20 minutes later to find a swamp in my Mini! The windows had gone down all on their own. So I cussed and screamed and got some towels to dry my flooded car interior and headliner. My 03 MCS BRG has a sunroof that also opened! I left work shortly thereafter, and as soon as I had shifted into 2nd gear, it did it again! While the car was on! Both windows and the sunroof began to open. As I tried to put them up, they fought against me and tried to roll back down!
It only happens once. One time when you start the car, and one time after I lock it, maybe one minute later. Only happens after the car is locked, and if I try to lock and close the windows/sunroof manually via the key in the door, it fights against going down, and then won't shut the sunroof. I am well versed with the Mini electrical system, have installed an Air/Fuel ratio and Boost gauge, as well as horns, new coil pack/ plugs and wires. I have the Bentley repair manual, but that really isn't much help at this point. PLEASE tell me somebody knows what is going on, because I cannot lock my mini until I figure this out. Is it the key? Low charge on the battery? HELP!!!!!

Hi,

I have seen this before on a brand new BMW in our dealership.
Unfortunatly the guy who worked on it won't be in until tomorrow.

On the 325 he locked everything and within 5 minutes all the windows and sunroof would open.

Is your "Convenience Opening" feature enabled?
If so, it might be screwing up.
See this thread.

Try burying your keys under a sofa cushion & use your valet key for a day or two. Then go back to your normal set & see if it happens again.

the keyless entry receiver & control module (FZV) is above the front headliner

The FZV relay, 610-7 in the bently sends you to 610-16 fig.4 Left footwell fuse panel I'm guessing its one of the 2 nonservicable relays refered to on the backside of the fuse panel shown in fig. 15. Maybe tapping them with a screwdriver handle while spewing obscenities will free the sticking contacts, if they are not solid state, & that one may actually be the relay or for that matter the culprit.

Well thats my GUESS anyway.

Thanks for the advice gents, as my headliner was soaked by this occurrence, perhaps the convenience thingy is the problem. I will also track the fuses and curse at them for a bit. thanks again

Fuse is fine. You mean relay, right?

sounds like a general module issue to me. There are to many ciruits involved to be a bad fuse or relay that is outside of a module.

Hi,

I just talked to the Tech over at BMW who had the problem.

He said it was the general module that they replaced and reprogrammed.

Good Luck.

Thank you all, I will look for a general module to replace my apparently faulty one. Anyone have an inside track to a replacement? I just love the dealership list prices. any help is appreciated. Many thanks

Even though you stole stephan's x-lites from me, I will offer a helpful suggestion: why not call Classic MINI in Ohio and ask them what the cost for the module is with your NAM member discount?

Note: you will have to get the dealership to reprogram the general module

Thinking about your problem today & recalling the suggestions I posted late last night, my brain had already shut down. The fzv module has to get the initial voltage signal for those circuits from the ...............what they said^ Go NAMtechs!

Actually the other way around. Once the fzv sees your signal it sends the request to the GM then sends the command to complete whatever action you want.
