Does anyone know how many times this code will get thrown before the SES light comes on?

I ask because I just had Eric(Helix) install a 15% and a CAI, and when he started it up that code had been thrown twice. (Never had an SES before). He cleared the codes and then I drove the Dragon like a bat out of hell and also drove 712 miles home to WI and never got the SES again.

I'm due for my first inspection in <1000 miles, should I mention this to the dealer or was this just some weird fluke?

Sounds like it just needed to get it's "mind" back after doing the pulley and CAI. If you cleared it and drove that long of a way, i wouldn't worry.

on the relationship you have with your dealer. If it's a good one, I'd mention it. Get it into the record so if it happens again, there's a paper trail. I don't subscribe to the idea that things just "go away". I'd bet it will be back.

The dealer may say or do nothing because the code has been cleared, and they can't confirm it.

FWIW, it's the age of the computer controlled car. Get you own code scanner. It's a good investment.

HELLO!! I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, MY CAR WON´T GO ABOVE 1000 RPMS... WHEN I START THE CAR IT REVS NORMALLY, ONCE IT GOES BELOW 1,500 REVS IT STARTS HAVING PROBLEMS. NO MATTER HOW MUCH I ACCELERATE, THE CAR WON´T GO ABOVE 1,200 RPMS AND A MAX SPEED OF 15-20 MPH. I´VE NARROWED DOWNED THE PROBLEM TO THE FOLLOWING OPTIONS THANKS TO ALL YOUR POSTINGS:

1) THROTTLE BODY WIRING LOOM

2) O2 SENSOR
3) THROTTLE BODY
4) THROTTLE POTENTIOMETER
COULD YOU PLEASE HELP ME NARROW IT EVEN MORE AND TELL ME WHICH IS THE MOST LIKELY BASED ON YOUR EXPERIENCE.
THANK YOU AND KIND REGARDS FROM MEXICO!

So I drive to catch the train and noticed a SES light. Oh crap..

Well ever since my troubles with the last engine I have carried around a Actron 9215 Code reader. I popped off my OBD2 cover and checked the code, P1229. I then cleared the code so I could get rid of the light. Which for a VW means Injector Circuit Cylinder 5 Short To Ground according to obd-codes.com. I did a quick search on NAM and found @MSFIT had the same code recently, throttle potentiometer adaption fault.

Now that I know some what the cause I feel like an idiot for clearing the code. Now I have to wait for the problem to rear its ugly head 2 times more to be able to take it to the dealer. Also my exhaust sounds throttier…not totally a bad thing. But I wonder if my code came out wrong and my car is trying to tell me my CAT is totaly dead and my exhaust note is part of it.
so guessing your issue was engine loom and tbody?
