What no train air horns?

Thanks for the pictures, it looks great.

Just so you know...you will probably have to replace the compressor after a while. The little fins that give you the compressed air will wear down and loss effectivenss. I had a air horn on an old pick-up they are great. I am now thinking about putting some train horns on my new pick-up. I want to install a electric compressor and 5gal tank.

I already sold this to Pep'r but now that we have the Mini there is so much more I want to do!:impatient

In fact a friend of mine out in the KC area has a black GMC Duramax with a set of train horns.

Did you put a relay into the circuit? The stock horn relay can't handle the current that compressor draws.

I didn't put a relay in. Long story, but all the wires got yanked out. I have to re-do it, so I'm going a differnt route.

I plan on wiring it so there is a momentary push button in the cabin. I didn't like it replacing the stock horn. When I re-wire it, I'll add a relay.

As for wear, out here in the midwest, I've probably used it once, maybe twice in real traffic situations.

The first time I tried it to test it out, I nearly p!ssed my pants! It scared the crap outta me!

That's probably not the best work-around but in this circumstance, it will probably work. It's not like your going to hold the horn on long enough for the wire to melt. The Elise guys who mount airhorns seem to do the same thing although wiring a relay to a fused wire going to the battery (MC) or fuse box input terminal (MCS) would be pretty easy.

I was carpooling to work a couple of weeks ago when an SUV driver yapping on a cell phone tried to merge into the space my mini was occupying.

The co-workers who were witness to the incident got a bit worried when, later at work, they looked over my shoulder and caught me with two browser windows open- here to find just the right tone, and here to price a set. Now, if only I could find a way to fit a set under the bonnet, a compressor and an air tank big enough for one or two quick blasts would probably fit in the boot.

I have since calmed down a bit, and have restricted my shopping to equipment that's louder, but still street legal.
