Yo-Yo Explination?

Hello all, I have read and re-read the yo-yo discrption found at https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=20115 and im not totaly certain that I get it. I have an 06 MCS with about 1600 miles on it and may have experienced the problem, but to be honest thought it was normal. can someone describe it a little furthur, as I may have a slight problem with it but dont know if what I have is normal or yo yo... On come on. There are plenty of descriptions of the yo-yo in there...I know...I put a couple in there myself! Next time really read the thread please!

Search the thread for: "bucking" or "3000 rpm" or "oscillation".

I have yet to drive an '05+ MCS that has the yo-yo or the stumble. They drive way nicer than the '02-'04's

Yo-Yo: Vehicle exhibits a characteristic where the throttle body is oscillating, causing audible and sometimes physical lurching &/or wavering. The Yo-Yo is applicable to the MINI Cooper S only, a vehicle that is supercharged, drive-by-wire, EGR-less, and returnless fuel delivery. Yo-Yo is found sporadically throughout all software versions from 31 to 36, however most prevalent with MY04's.

Taken from the Yo-Yo Chronicles in the first paragraph...in other words, the MCS will stammer, lurch, and lunge when accelerating. If you've got these symptoms, you may have Yo-Yo...but like it was said, I don't think anyone has complained of Yo-Yo on an 05-06. Take it to the dealer and see if it's something warranty related...just be forewarned, if they find nothing wrong, you're responsible for the diagnostic fee.

Guys
The reason I ask for more specifics is to see if the problem has
manifested itself in other ways, and to see if the fix would correct it.
I have always been the type that never just floored it for the quickest acceleration, but more or less sqeezed the pedal down and I have noticed
that acceleration is hardly ever uniform, at times it takes off like a rocket, and at others it feels as if my MCS never really reaches its fullest potential.

I have been behind the wheel of may different kind of cars, and can usualy
peg down optimal pedal pressure quickly, you know when you have done it right as the car launches faster then you thought it should have.

So my question was more or less a way for me to understand the sensation of Yo-yo

I also think that the problem may be the traction controll so will drive
with it off for the next week and hopefully will put this to bed

Thanks
HoopsCoop

The Yo Yo is definitely possible in an 05 MCS, so I can't see why it might not show up in '06. I fixed it with Ryephile and VGS. Owners of 02-04 MINIs do not have an exclusive right to such a PITA.

cheers, phil
