Need help setting the Clock ACCURATELY

Hi

I have an 05 MCS. Setting the clock accurately is nearly impossible it seems to me . The manual says that the clock will return to normal operation after setting it in approximately one minute. In my experience, this "return to normal" time period is really variable and prevents an accurate setting.

Am I reading this wrong? Is there a trick to getting the clock to be truly accurate to the second? I want the time to be "right on" not +/- a minute or two.

Thanks

Good luck. I know there is an issue with the 05 clocks running fast. I believe there was a tech bulletin about this, and it requires changing the whole speedo to fix. Mine is doing this, but I am holding off until my 10k appt to get it done(along with a list of about 10 other little things!)

Even if you can set the time accurately to the second, you won't be able to depend on it to hold its accuracy. On every car I have ever owned, the clock has always drifted to varying degrees. And this will date me, but I was a child, you could count on the car clock to stop functioning altogether after a couple of years.

My clock just can't stay accurate either I've read the Bulletin on the clock running fast... and if mine were doing that, I'd take it right in for warranty support. However, my clock seems to run 2 minutes SLOW no matter what I do I've even tried setting it 2 minutes FAST, and within about 5-10 minutes, it's slow by 2 again
One thing I did notice was that the ":" for seconds blinks a bit after I set it, but then eventually stops Any idea which is the normal operation? Blinking to indicate seconds, or steady?

Thx

Let me try again. I don't have a problem with the clock running fast (which is a known problem with a known fix). My clock keeps good time, I just can't set it accurately. Does anyone know how to get around the delay associated with exiting the "time set" mode and returning to "normal mode?"

how easily will they change out to spedo for the problem. my clock starts running fast the day after I set it, it gets to 10 mins. fast rather quickly. I was planning on trying to get it done with my 10k service - do I just need to tell them the problem and that i want it fixed? Will they automatically do it?

I know exactly what to do and I'm sure of this . Set the minutes at least one minute beyond the exact time. After you do this, the ":" sign will start blinking (at this point, the clock is not moving). Look at your watch and wait for the second hand to reach "12" and hit the set button on the clock one more time to syncronize. This should stop the blinking ":" and begin the clock on the first second of the time. Try it out. Also, if you don't hit the button one more time, the clock will resume running after about a minute. This is the amount of time you have to hit the button to syncronize. Hope this is clear enough to help you out .

good to know...but the clock is the only thing about my MINI that really bugs me. I've got the fast clock problem. The service department replaced the whole unit per the tech note instructions and the new unit has the same problem. (and in the process I now have some nice scratch marks on my dash from the de-installation/installation)

I would call them ahead of time because from what I've heard, some dealers are having a hard time keeping the new speedo's in stock. But yes, they should fix it for you if you call them about it under warranty...will they do it automatically w/o you asking for it, I strongly doubt it.

I had mine changed out 2-3 weeks ago and it is working 100% perfectly now.

Ha! Unless one of the watches is the kind that synchronizes with the atomic clock in Boulder, CO.... Then you just ignore the second watch.

I think you can only dream your 05 clock to be accurate within a minute. Mine, also an 05, always run slower. Not all car's clock run inaccurately, the Isuzu I have, its clock is dead accurate.

My '06 clock is always fast too. It gets kind of annoying.. but I usually have my cell phone on the parcel shelf so I just check that.

I was surprised after all the clock posts, my 06 clock is spot on, matches my verizon phone to just about the second. Have had the car for a month and a half, no change so far.

Fast Clock issue

I'm interested to hear there is a bulletin on the problem of fast clocks - I have an 06 Cooper and just had to set it back 10 minutes, which it gained in about a month of driving.

How do I get a copy of the Bulletin? Will the dealer know about it?

There is a TSB and the dealers all should know about it. It's a fix done at customer request only if I remember correctly.

Note to self: don't complain to dealer about the fast clock.

My solution to this clock problem has been to set the display to trip meter and carry my cell phone/wear my watch.

But then again....I guess what chows4us said applies to me
