I am just finishing rebuilding a 2003 mini cooper S that had a fairly hard front end hit. The latest problem we encountered was a cracked throttle body. Thanks to someone on this web site I purchased a stock one at substantial savings. I do autobody repair and limited mechancial. A friend of mine is the lead mechanic at a dodge dealer, well he now has the car and has replaced the throttle body. From what he has learned the computer needs to be retaught, is there a way to do this short of taking it to a BMW dealer. My nearest dealer is 1 hour away and has no openings soon. My friend is a certified mechanic but is having trouble trying to figure this out. Also does anybody know if the airbags have to be reprogramed by a dealer after replacement.Thanks for any help. you may be able to get away with leaving the key in the start position for 15 seconds before actually starting the car, but it is still best to have the adaptations reset. The airbags don't need to be reset, but the MRS module may if you replaced that or your airbag light is on.
Don't sweat it if the car runs good...
but to learn the limit positions of the position pots, you need to do a DME reset. The factory tools are required. But you may not need to go to a dealer. One of the local shops here has one of the factory tools and can do it. Call the BMW speciality shops as well, they may have the system and it can have the Mini SW on it as well O(that's how the local place got the Mini sw on thiers.)
But I did a TB change, and it worked fine without the DME reset. I guess the pots are pretty close from the factory...
