MCSa shift lock

I wonder this is the same as others who have 6-speed auto. I can shift out of P with key in "on" position (engine not running) without stepping on the brake pedal, but pressing on the shift button on the stick. Is the shift interlock broken? Thanks.

might have found answer myself

Plz let me know if I am worng. The button is actually not needed to shift out of P while the brake pedal is pressed. The button is to aviod accidental shifting into R or P. It's only used when go into reverse and park. Thanks for any input.

i think it's not suppose to get out of P without depressing the pedal.

either you switch or solenoid is probably broken.

Just tried this on my wife's 2005 MCSa and you cannot shift out of park without your foot on the brake. Yours is definitely broken.

Thanks, rthawth99. I have only tried and been able to shift out of "P" when the engine is off, key in igniton "on" position and the button on the shifter pressed. Of course, I would never ever shift out of "P" to "R" while the engine is running without stepping the brake pedal. The owner's manual does sound like that the shift button as override. That's why I can shift out of P without pressing the brake pedal. Does it make sense to you? I will try shifting next time without using the button, but only the brake pedal next time.

One time I thought mine was over in sport shift mode and I pushed the stick up to switch gears, but got neutral. Not good.
