"Autos for Dummies"

For anyone who is not an automotive expert and wishes to learn more about autos as I do, I just got done reading "How Car Engines Work" and "How Car Suspensions Work" on http://auto.howstuffworks.com/channe...uto&ct=library, and learned a lot of new things and got a good basic review.

I remember when I first bought my MINI I looked for an acutal "Cars for Dummies" book or something similar and found nothing useful, but this website is very good for basic info, so I just wanted to post it (or re-post it as I found the site through NAM in a different thread), so that others who wish to learn and keep up with some of the whizzes on NAM have a basic reference. Thats all.

I feel like I just wrote a book report.

Example Topics:

How Anti-Lock Brakes Work
How Automatic Transmissions Work
How Automobile Ignition Systems Work
How Brakes Work
How Camshafts Work
How Car Computers Work
How Car Cooling Systems Work
How Car Engines Work
How Car Steering Works
How Car Suspensions Work
How Catalytic Converters Work
How Clutches Work
How CVTs Work
How Diesel Engines Work
How Diesel Two-Stroke Engines Work
How Differentials Work
How Disc Brakes Work
How Drum Brakes Work
How Four-Wheel Drive Works
How Fuel Injection Systems Work
How Fuel Processors Work
How Gear Ratios Work
How Gears Work
How Horsepower Works
How Liquefied Petroleum
Gas Works

How Manual Transmissions Work
How Master Cylinders and Combination Valves Work
How Mufflers Work
How Quasiturbine Engines Work
How Rotary Engines Work
How Self-inflating Tires Work
How Sequential Gearboxes Work
How Torque Converters Work
How Wires, Fuses and Connectors Work
How Turbochargers Work

You're right - howstuffworks.com is a GREAT resource. I first discovered this site at when one of the reference librarians at the library where I work was helping a kid with a school report. I could spend the rest of my life just browsing NAM, Wikipedia, and HowStuffWorks.

Great tip - thanks for passing it on!
