Custom exhaust

Im thinking about having a custom exhaust done on my car and wanted some feedback on some people who have done this already.

My Q are.

1. What muffler are you using?
2. What size pipe?
3. Stainless or aluminum?
4. How was the narrow 90deg turn made for the tip?
5. And what tip did you use?

Picture would be nice too if ya got them. Thanx

I had mine done at Meineke Muffler on Bell Rd in Phoenix.

Stainless would have cost me a fortune...so it's regular metal

1x MAGNAFLOW resonator (3" pipe--don't recall how long)
2x MAGNAFLOW mufflers (14" long variety with 2.5" pipe)
3" piping from downpipe to the Y, where it goes into 2.5" piping into each muffler
The tips exist right out the backside of the mini (cut rear bumper valence to fit...in other words stock exit location not used)
90' bends were pre-fab mandral bent on the 2.5" section.

This has an awesome low tone. Looking to find someone with a digi vid cam to get some a/v clips to post on the web.

My Q are.

1. What muffler are you using?
Borla Turbo from Summit Racing...

2. What size pipe?
2.5"

3. Stainless or aluminum?
ss

4. How was the narrow 90deg turn made for the tip?
it wasn't... battery box removed, and went straight...

5. And what tip did you use?
Ractive, a wide oval (think Boxster) that fills the valence opening quite nicely...

Picture would be nice too if ya got them. Thanx

I have some photos here on NAM, somehwere. Search in the Performance forum, posts my me, and key words "exhaust" & "straight"...

Being that you are in a area that the rust stuff forms..... I would only look into a system that gives long term corrosion protection.... I have a borla race..( one with smaller round cans, not oval ).( info found on borla.com) comes with long warr...

Well my header is on the way and then off to JetHot to have it coated. So once thats back i will start on the exhaust. I will be using SS so im not worried about rusting. I was also thinking about powder coating the rest of the exhaust as well.

I did

OBX Header, Magnaflow OBD-II cat, Magnaflow ressonator, 2.5" SS piping, Magnaflow muffler, and out the MC (non-S) valence. WAKE THE FRIGGIN DEAD! It's off the car now, I think I'll try the Borla turbo Tony's running next time.

Hi All
I'm Sorry I don't remember the the name of the person who posted that they came out the rear on the sides and not in the center. There is a Exhaust Co. in the UK. that makes the same set up! And they supply a new Valance/ Black ABS Plastic with the system. I think the system is Blueflame, on sale for $895 @ Kassmotorsports in FL. or something like that. The tips look like a Honda S2000. I saw this a few days ago looking at this site.

Good Luck All,
Randy & Meg

Well i started on the exhaust and put the HPR header in last nite.....FREAKIN loud is all i have to say. No cat or res.

Im getting this weird belt squeal noise when i get on it but i know its not the belt. Im gonna check the O2 sensors and lower flange to see if they werent tightened enough and hope its not in a weld which actaully was one of the best welds ive seen in a long time.

Please be nice to the environment, and put on a cat. The one I used was rated to over 6 liters displacement, and lit off fine, and was under $100. Be nice to mother nature, she gives us a nice playground to screw around in. It won't take too much of the noise out either. I think you'll find that you need a pretty good muffler too,, the straight throughs with perf holes doen't do squat for noise. My neighbors could hear my Mini from farther than I could hear their F355 with racing exhaust! I'd get headaches from long drives, and I was worried about my one year old daughters hearing.

I didn't try the flowmasters for imports (they make a muffler/resonator) and I'm bummed that the 50 series doesn't fit. TonyB did well with the Supersprint centerpipe with resonator, and a Borla turbo muffler, but he hasn't stepped up to a header yet...

Matt

good luck finding the leak.... If you have a spring/graphite gasket set up, the OBX springs suck.... Also, if they're overtightened, they may deform the graphite.... -M-

Does this count?

I cut the back half of my stock MCS exhaust off and welded the rear portion of a Magnaflow catback to it. No resonator, no back seats, and it's not too loud inside. Pretty loud from outside though. I need to get pics / audio though

From what sounds like a leak i think is resonating from the muffler and makin it sound like its comin from the front. I did the one-ball and its vibrating the ish out it so it sounds like crap.

What muffler size should i go with? and where did you get the cat from.

I'd say yes to the ressonator...

But you can try without and see if you get droning on the freeway...

I got my cat at performance peddler in San Diego. The link will take you to the cat I used. Call them in person, and offer less than the listed $84. About 6 months ago, I got it shipped to my door for $60...

3. Aluminum
4. Center exit? Thats for pansys. Single sided Cooper-style
5. Tip is built into muffler. straight cut, polished stainless.

Pix will come soon, Lift is down, so i have to wait to finish the system.

I'd love to finish mine off, but I don't have the time or the $ to just keep trying different mufflers.

I went 2.5" though...
