Rough idle and now SES and DSC light :-(

My car is sick suddenly. I drove it from the subway to school. It say for maybe 15min then I started it up and it started to run very rough on low rpms. Then I gave it gas and it sounded even louder of a weird rumble.
I turned it off and then off thinking it was a bad start. No good…pulled away and drove slowly. The ABS/DSC light came on. Then as I got down the road the SES light came on. So I drove it slowly home and I am hoping for the best when I call the dealer.
Figures the weather isn’t good right now for going to the dealer or waiting for a tow truck.
So the car ran like a train and went Chuga, chuga, chuga and then once it seemed to warm up it evened out and still had lights.
So I did check the oil in case it ran out after the gauges install. Also I thought maybe if there was a boost leak I wouldn’t have any boost onthe gauge..so I don’t know.

Exact same problem with my MCS today. Scheduled to visit the dealer service dept for diagnotics on Thursday. Same lights and rough running. Very cold here, what about where you are?

Let me know if they figure out what is wrong with yours.

Cheers,
Jason.

For Coopersport (and lot) good idea

for mdsbrain .... hehe, it doesn't get below 15 degrees in this part of the woods except like once every 30 years. Maybe this is an auto thing?

Rofl that brings back memories. I member when it snowed up there. Some buddies of mine drove up and stole all the snow in the back of a truck and threw it at people. It was funny .

I live in slo, ca now. 3 miles from the ocean and I freeze .

I cannot wait to be warm again on the 16th of this month. Mmmm WARMTH!

Was only about 25 F today. Cold? Yes, but not cold enough for a modern car to act up like this. We're far from the arctic in Toronto. It's worse in Buffalo most of the time because of the lake effect.

Well since that day the car is driving fine with a big yellow SES light on. I need to get it in the dealer but I am so damn busy . I need to see if they have any loaners. After all I'm 21 now and should be able to get a loaner

I've emailed my SA about bringing in the car on Thursday. I'm curious wth the problem is. The car sounded so bad that day but running like a champ since then.

I started having a similar problem with my 04 S running rough at idle, and the DSC and SES light coming on. It ran fine for about a month after the first occurance. Then the EML light popped one once or twice while the car was stalling. My car has been at the Towson dealership for a week now (fifth trip there in the last month), and after getting the new software, replacing the throttle body, and replacing the DME, I received a call today saying they still haven't a clue as to why my car is now dying everytime it hits 1000 rpm or less. It's really frustrating, so I'd try to get that car of your's in ASAP.

I emailed my SA back today and arranged for my car to go in Thursday morning. I hope they can get to the bottom of whats wrong. I'm sure something is wrong and won't go away because the SES light hasn't gone off like it has before.

Any word on your end what it ended up being? My service dept. cleared all the codes and said they needed to wait until it tripped again. There were too many old codes stored in the computer for them to narrow down the problem.

Cheers,
Jason.

There have also been known issues about the superchargers plastic inlet duct seperating at the weld causing a leak. You will get a code P1498

My dealer has had my car since Thursday morning and said they will try to get it in by noonish. They are very busy and down a tech today. So hopefully I will know later.

But my SA said he was pretty sure it was the bypass valve.

Not Good

I called my SA and they said they found coolant in my oil. They think that points to a blown head gasket . So he asked about my crank pulley. If its a underdrive or overdrive and I said neither. Its stock size just lighter. So he said they had the car out for a test drive with a boost gauge of theirs to see if its overboosting to cause the bad head gasket. I haven't heard anything since. So I just sit and and hope I didn't screw myself for modding my baby

And his tech was complaing on my Oil Catch can when changing my oil

So if it is a blown head gasket, that makes the 3rd one (mdsbrain, orlando and faustk, I think) we've heard about in the last 2 weeks here on NAM and Randy's site. Pretty strange that there probably haven't been 3 reports of this over the last 3 years, then 3 in the last 2 weeks.

That sucks -

I may be off a bit, after re-looking at both sites it appears that "orlando" on Webb's site == "faustk" on NAM. So maybe this is only 2 in 2 weeks, but that still seems to be a lot versus the last few years history.

Anyway, since the factory oil cooler on the MCS is actually a water-oil heat exchanger somewhere under the filter housing, I guess there's a small chance that there could be a defect in that area that could cause coolant to get into the oil. I don't know if there's any kind of gasket or seal there or not.

I spoke with my SA today. He said that they are going to replace my head gasket under warranty. THANK GOD! Reason being is my car wasn't pushing to much boost. According to their boost gauge it was pushing 16psi. Also they said it will take longer due to things on my car like the Oil Catch can.

Hey that's good news! Make sure they figure out why the head gasket failed in the first place.
