What should my first mod. be???

WOW, all these recommendations. While many are worthwhile, one's FIRST modifications is always:

I am in agreement with skuzy. There is always more car than driver so learn to drive your fun new ride stock first. Learn what it can and can not do in stock form and then get into the mods. Most people start with their engine bay (i did), but if I had to do it over again I would have made some suspension mods first (springs, rear sway). Doing those two things will run you about $1k (including labor), conservatively.
Then I'd move on to the engine bay with an ECU upgrade, pulley, oil catch can,exhaust, CAI and the VGS mod (do a search for that one). You should have someone else do the pulley and exhaust since I am guessing you don't have those tools, but if you are adventurous you can do the OCC and CAI pretty easily. All in all this upgrade will cost somewhere in the $2k range depending on the suppliers you use.
I've saved the wheels and tires until last just because I can not make up my mind as to what I want. The package will probably set me back about $2k.
Bottom line is that you can keep going and going and going ,and before you know it you've dropped about 10 boxes of ziti into your MINI. But where else can you get so much enjoyment!
