V43 update

Mini went in for the V43 update yesterday. Brief recap. We were having major transmission issues with our MCSa along with the cold start problem. Dealer also did two recall updates that we didn't know about. Wiring harness which I read about hear but never notified by Mini and also a coolant hose that I have heard or read nothing about. They installed V43 and so far so good. The drivability is much better. The trans is shifting like it did when we first picked it up (good). Also no cold start issue this morning. Too early to tell if everything is 100% but so far so good.

v43 updated as well

I went it to the dealership for the wiring harness recall and at the same time they uploaded v43. I've been driving with it for about one week now and the car feels much smoother and starts in the morning without any hesitation at all. According to my finely tuned butt dyno, it also feels a little zippier. Maybe that's becuase they had to 'reset' the ecu so I'm now reteaching it how I like to drive and I've had my foot on the gas as much as possible! In my opinion, v43 is excellent, so far at least.

I took the car in this past weekend for the harness recall and they also wanted to do the other "recalls" which were not described in the letter or otherwise indicated to me prior (in spite of having taken the car in for the SES before and being told I'd be contacted about any fixes).

They said they had to do the software upgrade but no-one could tell me what version was used. The Mini shop forman was out that day and everyone else was clueless - does anyone know if I can check myself via the Nav or something? (I am not feeling well today, maybe I'm blanking out on info previously discussed, if so sorry ).

The hose service could not be done as the part was not in stock, which is very annoying since, if they had just included the info in a notice, I would have made sure the dealer service was prepared before bringing the car in. After all the Mini service notice had my VIN and could have included any relevent info along with the engine harness, or they simply could have sent another notice for the hose, software needed for the SES. Bringing the car in is not convenient and is time consuming and the least they could do is let the owner know what needs to be done so the parts can be on hand.

Anyway, the SA said the hose thing was not urgent and could wait - does anyone have more info on that? It is SIB 17 01 05.

Help with rough downshifts?

Our 05 Week 42 MCSa really downshifts rough, even in just drive mode. Does V42 help with this?

So far about 16-1700 on the clock, we don't seem to have any cold start problem. The car does live in the garage & temps have not gone below the 50's yet, so i don't know if that is a factor.

thanks!

I will test drive tonight for flat spots.

Regarding down shifting and V42, V42 sucks bad all around. We had V42 and the shifting was very erratic. V43 seems to have curred our issues.

Can I just go to the dealer and ask for V43?

...last time they told me no, cus I have no problem they don't want to put anything new in the car to mess it up.

I now have to ask a somewhat rhetorical question: Why bother with releasing a new version that doesn't seem to address any of the more pressing problems?

They seem to be applying "shotgun engineering". Eventually they will hit it. I am trying a new approach. I am trying some fuel additive containing ethanol. Going on a hunch. Keep you posted.

Shotgun engineering? Even with a shotgun, you hit something if pointed in the right direction. Based on the prior posts, BMW/MINI didn't hit anything. I would tend to think that you are seeing busy-body programming - fix the simplest bugs so you can provide metrics that show you are very busy (...our team fixed 20 bugs with the new release....). But, none of the bugfixes were for important items.... I do believe that BMW/MINI have the second (or is it third) string on the current software (with the 1st string or the A team on the software for the 2007s).

I tend to agree with you on that.
