Catalytic converter options

Just found out that "something bad" happened inside my catalytic converter to cause massive back pressure and severe power loss. Am in the market for a replacement. Not sure that the MINI dealer will accept a warrantee claim due to my pulley and intercooler mods. The stock replacement is (gulp) $800. I will pursue the warrantee claim and I am an Enviro guy. So, do want to do the proper thing regarding emissions.

What are my options??? Is there a cheaper alternative? Will they last? The stock one didn't last too long, 22,000 miles.

Any help will be appreciated.

Start looking in salvage yards. I'm sure there are MINIs that have been salvaged due to accidents.
