Door Casing Color with Grey Leatherette
Door Casing Color with Grey Leatherette
When Grey Leatherette upholstery is specified on the MINI USA configurator, the door casing color is listed as "Grey" for hardtop models and "Black" for convertible models.
The only model I've seen with Grey door casings is a Cooper hardtop. All the pictures I've seen of Cooper S Hardtops with Grey Leatherette have had Black door casings.
Any owners out there with Grey Leatherette and Grey door casings whose MINI isn't a Cooper hardtop?
A couple of pictures illustrating the two combinations:

NOTE:
Some people call the color of their upholstery or door casings "GREY" because the MINI "Black" or "Panther Black" is more charcoal grey in color. Leatherette seats which are NOT two tone are "Black". Door casings which match the top of the dash are "Black".

From what I can see, this option no longer appears to be available. It used to be. Also, back in '02 there was an option called "Magnesium" which was around for a year or two and then dropped. It was smooth, not textured, and a much lighter grey than the grey door panel.
My late build '05 Cooper S with grey leatherette has black doors.

My bad. I partially misunderstood the post. I understand more clearly now.
....and I can't explain it for you.
However, in the past this was actually a choice you could make - even with black leatherette you could get the grey door casings (which also gave you grey carpet instead of black).
