Gas Gauge Accuracy

I was driving this weekend in my Honda at half a tank and the gas gauge accuracy sucks - it is all over the place.

So how is the Mini's gauge accuracy? I am not getting an on-board computer and am curious.

Thanks!

do you have a regular gauge or a nav gauge, cause i have a nav gauge and i have a similar problem. THe gauge will hang up at the higher bars for a little bit, but once i lose 2 bars, the rest fly down.

have driven my 2005 MCS ....

down to 8 miles several times, and once down to 6 miles on displayed miles to go in the tank....

There is a sadle type tank which requires two gas gauge sensors, so I don't know how bad things get when the tank(s) is nearly bone dry....

ive taken it down to the point when the OBC says (---), thats beyond zero! No real problems. Filled the tak up with 13.7 gallons of fuel. My dad ran out of gas once, i dont know what happened with it though. Got fuel back in it and she started right up.

My Mini's guage us fairly accurate. I think all manufacturers tend to treat us like idiot children, sometimes. I have yet to own a vehicle where the "E" really means empty. If I get the guage perfectly alligned with E there is usually a little over 2 gallons in the tank.

I have driven mine way off the scale, then put over 14 gallons in so it was prett darn empty. See the attached picture.

In general, the first and last quarters go pretty slow but the middle 1/2 flies by on mine. Sometimes I can drive 10 miles and it moves what looks like 1/8th of a tank!

gas gauge

I have run mine down to "E" that is when the computer says you have --- miles left.

The book says there are about 2 gallons in reserve. Nothing has conflicted with that yet. I was NOT fuel starving on a long hard sweeping turn where a freind of mine regularly fuel starves his car.

You can get the odometer to tell you how many gallons are in the left and the right tank, but I did not try that when the display said E. I don't know why the Left and right tank have separate sensors, since they are just "one tank" to the user.
