Reverse light switch

The air box removal and replacement was the longest part of the job (took me about an hour including a bunch of trips back and forth to the house for extra tools and cleaning supplies).
I had a few words with the metal clip that holds the airbox hose on, until I figured out the trick to close it (there is a small notch in the back that you press with a screwdriver to push it over the locking tab)

Thanks for the help and pictures on this thread. That is what convinced me to give it a try!!

It's nice to have lights again.
I've had that switch go out on the MC (before I sold it) and the 2 MCS's I now own.
On the MC you can access the switch from the bonnet and go straight over it with a deep-well socket.
On the MCS there is no need to remove the air box. Just remove the driver side tire and access it from the wheel well. Hardest part in this removal is getting the wiring off without banging your knuckles when it finally lets loose.

The replacement switch is still good after 2 years.

I have the same thing. I pulled the switch off of the transmission and tested it with an ohm meter and it seems to work. Push in the plunger and I get contact. release and no contact. I doubt there is anmore to that swith is there? So it it isn't that, and it isn't the bulb, where else is there to look? Does it have it's own special fuse somewhere?

varmintpro, Nope it's a real simple circuit. Did you check for power from the connector? One of mine that crapped out was intermittent too, then finally died. Oil get's in them and insulates the contacts it's a lousy switch. A new switch from Classic isn't that expensive and I bet that will cure you problem.

Anybody have the part number. I have an '02 MCS manual. Thanks,

normo03s: Thanks for the reply, I haven't checked the switch for power. I pulled it out and checked for continuity. I'll be sure and check the connector for power first thing.

Hey - quick check - grab a paperclip and short the plug that connects to the reverse switch. If your light illuminates, then it's the switch. I had the same issue, and the old switch seemed okay - I got continuity (but is was about 100-ohm) and after replacing it, it was good.

Part is: 23141043489 Backlup Light Switch

2006 R50, I replaced the fuse 3 times and pop. I also replaced the switch for *****'s and G!ggles and still the fuse keeps popping, the bulbs are good. Any ideas or directions. Am I missing something obvious.

Sealable Switch?

Going to email Classic for a better price and buy some other needed parts.
Is it possible to use something like RTV sealant/gasketmaker to seal the body of the switch so that the electrical contacts don't get full of oil? It would be an easy thing to do, unless you like to keep buying switches every 10 months. Just wondering if anybody else had the same idea..

With the MCS, 6 speed Gertag transmission...

Take off the left front wheel, you can see and reach the reverse light switch, with out getting under the car, but you may have to get your head into the wheel well, so be sure to use a stand under the car.

I don't know where it is on other cars.

I have a 2008 clubman and we could not find the switch. Can you help out?

According to the wiring diagrams, in a Clubman...

For an automatic transmission, there is no physical switch. The backup light is controlled by the footwell module.

For a manual transmission, the switch is here:
