Greatbears MINI Advice

Greatbear,

I had the original v32 ECU software in my 02 MCS upgraded to the v40 upgrade (I know – my fault and kicking my butt since) a few months back. I’ve lost power off the line, I’ve lost overall power and I now stall and never did. I know I can’t get the v32 back, but what do you think I can do to get the performance of my once mighty MCS back?

Take your big wheels aka "02 MCS" with your battery aka "ECU" and use some glue.. non-plastic type and pour it all into your bonnet aka "front part of car that lifts up" close bonnet and smash your window with a hammer and put a NOS sticker on it and you will gain 100HP!!!

I hope your joke is just that Josh, because my question to Greatbear is not. You don't know he is one of the most insightful MINI people around, but I do and would like his opinion on this.

I have no idea where you are coming from with the NOS stickers or anything else you're pulling out of your a$$. I run a totally stock MCS with NO stickrer power - get it..

This is a true and real question to Greatbear.

Go back to off topic to play games OK.

Butt in again where you don't belong and I'll give you some NOS stickers.

After going from v36 to v41my MCS got a bad idle and stumble, though power was unchanged and the ASC actually better/less intrusive. After applying a GIAC flash, all is well

If BMW is unable to make something work after 41 revisions, it's time to look to the aftermarket.

Wrong.

It may help, but it takes me out of the G-Stock class.

Some MINI drivers use it and get away with it, but I refuse to cheat to win.

If I don't win using the rules, then why even play.

So, sweetie....maybe the kind folks don't realize you are trying to keep it auto-cross legal? That, I think, is why you mention "cheating" above.

I'll see if I can nudge the kind Greatbear out of his cave....tee hee!

It's the weekend, and I think the Bear is out of his den, foraging in the woods.

Remember Bears must start to bulk up this time of year. Those advice threads can run you ragged.

Hmmm let's see...you had your software changed, and you only want to use factory software, so that leaves you with...yup, the factory crap software. No one can give you a magic answer, since no one here can make you factory software, or roll you back. Since you over wrote your old version, you'll need to find a dealer that's willing to somehow reflash you with the old version, but I doubt that is even possible, given BWM rules on ECU flashes.

Now that we know you need to stay factory to be 'legal', that explains all the off-color and completely unfounded comments and remarks you make in all the other threads regarding MTH. Seems to me like you are just jealous that the rest of us (that don't give a crap about driving around in a parking lot with cones) get to enjoy all the GREAT motoring experience MTH gives us, every day, on the road. It is all so clear now.

Sndwave is right in wanting his car to run correctly with the MINI software. MINI messed it up and why should anyone else besides MINI put up the cost to fix it.

Here's a bump for Sndwave.

I certainly don't disagree that the factory software SHOULD work right in the first place! Hell, the main reason I went with aftermarket in the first place was to correct what the factory *thought* was the right way for the car to behave. But be realistic...it's crap software, has been for a LONG time, shows no hope of improving, so what is there left to do? Fix it, or ***** about it. I chose to fix it.

Hmmm....the Great One instant-messaged me to say that he has been unable to log onto NAM all weekend! All the other sites work for him!

It's working out fantastically! Yes there is a very big power gain over the regular, especially from 2000rpm+. Worth every penny!

You do have a point, kaelaria. The thing is, you would think complaining should take care of this. Back in 02 and 03 people complained about the cupholder being small. MINI sent out cups that came closer to fitting and also now have a new cupholder. Around the same time people complained about the stiff ride. I believe just after I bought my MINI, May 03, the suspension was changed to correct this. I may be wrong on that so I'm sure I'll be corrected. Also, people complained about the rear view mirror being small. We now have a larger mirror. Another thing, people in the US complained about not having the option of the rear fog light. This has also been changed to make it available.

All these things were known at the time of purchase yet people complained about them anyway and suprisingly they were corrected by MINI to make people happy. What has happened to Sndwave and countless others including myself happened after the vehicle was purchased. Yet, MINI refuses to fix the problem.

Within one day I can go out and put together a 286 computer running Windows 3.1. You would think that MINI could do something similiar by digging up the original software and dumping it in an ECU for those that don't live in states which require the emissions recall. Simple fix but oddly enough MINI feels that something that actually affects the driveability is less important than a cup holder or mirror.

I'm not trying to argue, I'm just agreeing with Sndwave that it would be nice to have the car like it was when it was purchased.

Thanks SB

I'm out of warranty BTW, so I'll have to pick up the cost if they ever get their ***** together. I should say EVER EVEN CARE to get their ***** together.

I love my MINI, but the company sucks.

And if you missed it a few months back I'm using the as the universal UP YOURS sign.

I agree with you 100%, but in reality, there is only one option right now.

You should mention that first.

Unless you can find a untouched factory 02 ECU laying around somewhere,
I think you don't have a choice but to get a reflash or live with it.

btw, how good are you in G-Stock class anyway? If you're winning,
we would understand your position, but if not even close then
who cares! just get the reflash done cause you're not gonna win
anyway. hehehe
