I gotta do my logging into NAM at work.

Pat, you and a bunch of others are doing the same complaining. Getting the new software seems to reduce the 'spunk' the car originally had. It seems that BMW puts the emphasis in fixing (a) particular problem(s) with each new s/w release and performance takes a back seat or is not a consideration at all. The drop in performance probably stems from less aggressive timing and overall richening of mixtures that are geared towards longevity and emissions concerns that BMW may be dealing with. Performance? Hell, the customer wont notice (yeah, riiiiight ).

I wish it were as easy for simply drop in an old ECU with an early s/w version. Problem is, it's not that simple. Dropping in any old ECU into a car that it was never part of will not work, because it's not programmed to match the rest of the other subsystems in the car. You'd have to take it to the dealer to be reprogrammed and, you guessed it, you'd end up with the latest software installed in the diagostic station. Plus, it's not like these ECUs are sitting around like they are with old Camaros.

It seems to be possible to 'retrograde' your ECU, but to do so would involve a shop that is not part of the dealer network, since the dealers are required by BMW to keep their stations at the latest rev level. Since tuning tends to be geared towards aftermarket and increasing performance, no one would tend to revert back to the 'old' software unless there is a fear of warranty rejection by the dealer. In those cases, the remapping software can 'exchange' the old software for the new high performance stuff and back again, but not allow any other code to mingle within. That, of course, is taking money away from the tuners. Since your 'old' software is now the newest stuff that you dont want, you are SOL in this case.

If somebody with the v32 software has upgraded to MTH a while ago they might have the original v32 .org file,
and you could use cartune to upload the file,
you might have to get Franz to change the file keycode so you can use it?
I know its a long shot but you might get lucky,
anything is possible.
