Flat tire/DSC warning lights on & off ?!?!?!?
Flat tire/DSC warning lights on & off ?!?!?!?
I've noticed this has happen 2 times now, I will start the car and the flat tire and DSR warning lights come on and dont go off, I try flicking the DSC switch on and off and it doesnt go off.
then the next time I start the car (so far) the lights wont be on?
does heat effect this system?
why would both lights be coming on??
is this a safety thing when you get a flat tire the DSR comes on automatically??
....or is it just that my car is screwing up??
dealer time????
db
PS
this is a dumb question but can someone explain what the DSC is actually for and when it should be used or not used??
should it be on all the time or just in the rain or what?

Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) applies the brakes at individual wheels and reduces engine torque when it senses you're skidding or not traveling on your intended path. (DSC) selectively increases braking pressure on the outer front wheel while it reduces pressure on the inner wheel to ensure the car corners flatly at high speeds. It ensures extra safety on the road, for instance it won’t let you drive the car faster – even though you step down on the accelerator – once it detected a possible skid and unsafe situation.
The Motoring Advisor that worked with me on the purchase of my 05 said that you should leave the DSC on all the time (normal everyday driving) but you have the option of turning it off if you are doing “spirited” driving on the twisties.
However make sure that you turn it off if one wheel is off the pavement (say in the mud and spinning) while the other front wheel is on the pavement and has traction. Other wise…the system will work against you as you try to speed-up to get both wheels back on the road!
Make sense?

I JUST had this same thing happen to me
. The dealer said "bring it in... We'll take care of it". Im thinking it just MIGHT have something to do with a low tire. The low tire/DSC might detect the wheels spinning at two different rates... hence the DSC??? Then again, who knows... I've only had my car for a week now
Oh BTW, my tire was sitting at 25lbs in the right front, while the left was 30lbs. Filled them both up to 36-38lbs, and lights turned off. Still could just be an error though. Im taking it in

thanks for the suggestions...
I'll check my tire pressure and try to reset the flat tire warning, I'll have to see if those lights come back on.
this is the only draw back to owning these cars is that the local BMW dealer wont touch my car so i have to drive 2 hours to a dealer to have it looked at.

if both lights are on, you probably have a failure. The most common seems to be the sensor under the center console. Its cables run near other things and can get pinched and cause a failure. other causes can be bad connection to engine ecu or steering angle and someone else just mentioned. If the ABS light is also on, it may be a wheelspeed sensor.
unfortunately the best bet is a drive to the dealer and they can read out the failure codes and find the problem quickly.

dont think I have ABS, I would have another switch on the dash like the DSC, right?

Do most of you keep your DSC on at all times?
I've been driving with it off, I kinda like having control of the car...

but if Im suppose to keep it on I will.

Hey this happened to me also. Had it happen 2 times, weeks apart. I brought Azuul into the MINI Center today, told them the problem, but they said "they could find no codes saying anything was wrong, and they could not duplicate the problem". So, they did nothing. I wish this thread started a day earlier, so I could have suggested checking the steering angle sensor, whatever that is.
Thanks for the info. As usual, this forum knows much more than my MINI dealer.

if your SES light comes on, it will often be accompanied by the DSC since the good engine interface may not be available.
Since your ABS light does not come on, you probably have a CAN-related failure. The CAN bus is a high-speed communications link between many of the modules in the MINI. The sensors. the engine, the body controller, the ABS, the instrument cluster all use the CAN bus to communicate to each other. Most likely the problem is related to the sensors, since they do not affect other modules.

There won't be any current fault, but there should be some faults in the history.
I checked my tire pressure an my left front tire was 30lbs, while all the rest are at 40, that seems a like too much pressure to me, shouldnt it be 35 all round?
I havent check yet but Im sure the tire pressures should be on the car door.
also once I have them all at the correct settings how do I reset the flat tire warning? or does it automatically reset?
I know theres a button under the emergency brake.
Im going to keep my fingers crossed that that was my problem, so far the lights havent come on again.
