I'm looking for shop and/or service manuals for the Cooper and MCS. Something like the Bentley manuals for BMW, or even Hayes-style stuff. Ideas anyone!?

TIA,
Ryan

There was a reason for my flippant reply. A couple of threads on MINI2 include:

This one with 30 negative replies and this one with 8 replies including this set of words quoted from a letter from Haines (who publish 3rd party manuals:

> Dear Sir/Madam
> Thank you for your email regarding the above.
>
> Unfortunately we will not be producing a manual for the above for
> the next 2-3 years as this model has only been on the market for
> a year and we need time to assess the sales of this car to determine
> the demand for a manual.
>
> If you need any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.
>
> Assuring you of our best intentions at all times

That's why I commented the if you happen to open the door, let the rest of us know!

I inquired at our MINI dealer and the tech told me the service information is "digital," that it is integral to the "BMW" service computer network. Not sure how accurate that is, but he said there is not a BMW supplied paper based manual.

'digital' is true but it's a CD ... copies are sometimes available on places like Ebay : search for TIS and ETK cd's under MINI and BMW

Aufmerksamkeit!
(with applogies for the no-doubt awful translation from Google )

Yes, it's a bit inconsistant : the TIS (workshop manual) ver.3.2.1 is for the One and Cooper, but the ETK (partsbook) covers all including 'S' ... I haven't found the 'S' workshop book either ...

A question for all of you doing mods, changing your own oil, etc. Where are you finding the Torque specs? Or is everyone just tightening the old fashioned way?

Why would the TIS not include the R53? That's a bit odd. Where did you guys find the ETK?

The torque specs are in the TIS - seems like a few should be in the Owners' Manual ( like wheel bolts ...) but somehow they missed that ...

... and the ETK? ... search ebay under BMW ...

It seems everyone wants a "manual" a cheap manual. I've paid more for ones in the past; try getting a set for a 928s Those I have not found, but these are complete offical one the BMW MINI uses.

Give them a hall'er

Motor on

This from iancull in another thread....

"The MINI wiring harness is referred to as a single piece harness. The main harness is vehicle specific depending on optional equipment"
(from my latest purchase "MINI Complete Vehicle Technical Training&quot

The harness basically connects all the electrical things together.

Hey! Where'd you get the book!? I want one... I want one!

I have the Above TIS CD loaded on my Laptop. It is very detailed. I am still working my around and finding new things everyday. It does have allot of usefull stuff. it covers both the Mini Cooper and Cooper S till October of 2002. There should be an update CD coming out in a month or so (as was told to me by Barry at Schiff). I would highly recomend it, but it is not cheap.

binx,
Sorry for not noticing before ...
Go here BMW manuals and look for ST-044.
Be prepared to fall over when you see the price!
Personally ... probably not worth paying unless you are a MINIAC. The manual is like something used in a training course, with Q&A sessions at the end of sections. There are *no* schematics or other lovely things.

I was in MINI Peabody recently, and noticed a copy on one tech guys shelf - you probably could ask to look at someones copy to see if you wanted to buy it.

Or, since you are in Boston, you probably could see my copy some time ...

Google is your friend....

Check out this thread over at another site. Unfortunately the ftp site listed does not have the 03 models or any S but if you have an 02 Cooper or One, it's on there.

Normally I wouldn't support piracy like this but I'm just a tinkerer who isn't going to make any money by working on my MINI and I can't justify spending that much for a manual. Also I have nothing to do with the above link, I just found it.
-Chris

p.s. I added this because the other online link does not work any more.

I gotta say that I downloaded the above link and I really wasn't that impressed with it. Kindof hard to navigate through and overall, the instructions weren't as good as most shop manual's I've seen.

Also I really don't care about the other BMW's in there, I just want a good manual for my MINI so I know how to take it apart (and most importantly put it back together). Hopefully someone will come out with a good manual soon. Sorry BMW, there is no way I'm paying the money you want for the TIS cd.
