does auto still have power?

Mom is looking at getting a MCS but she can not drive a stick shift due to a knee replacement. She was wanting to know if the auto still has the "pick up" that the stick shift does.

Please let know if you have driven both or if you have an auto, let me know what you think.

Thanks, a bunch.......

Sheri

I have driven both, and your mom will not be disappointed with the power of the MCS auto.

I bought a 6-speed manual but did drive the MCSa. I thought it drove fine. Power felt good off the line and it shifted smooth but felt sporty. A nice match for the engine...

There's a good write-up by someone who owns both an auto and a manual over on motoringfile.

Sheri,
What does your mother drive now? Anything with four cylinders? Anything that weighs over 3500 pounds? If so then she will be just fine with a new MCS with auto transmission.

Power is ample and the transmission is smooth. For street driving and urban use it will work and be very happy. Opt for no sunroof and stick with the 16" wheels if possible.

Can she go for a test drive? If no MCS auto is available then try an MC CVT.

My MCS automatic accelerates GREAT. It's quick off the line and pulls strong. I'm super glad I went with the MCS over the MC automatic - I found the MC just didn't have the acceleration I need.

I've driven both and the MCSA does accelerate very well. I wouldn't choose one over my manual, but your mother won't be dissapointed or missing out.

Mom is currently driving a 2004(i think) Chevy Trail Blazer, 6 cyl, and I am not sure of the weight, but it must be alot. She has built one on line and is chosing the same color as mine (CR/W) but adding the aero kit, driving lights, nav, lighted running board and all the packages! She wanted the JCW but could not get it in an auto, oh well. She wants to drive mine for a week to see how her knee does, but I do not think I can do that long with out her.

She was concerned about the color choice being so close to mine but I think it will be cute, mother and daughter in (almost) matching Mini's! Hey, I wonder if we will be the first mother daughter matching Mini team?

Anyway, thanks for all the feed back. I will bring her on line and let her read it. She said she is going to chose the screen name " bama girl's mom" so everyone will know who she is.

That might not be longer true with the MY 2006 MINIs

BTW, she won't be disappointed with the MCSa
